Occupation Description:

Information Technology consists of job families that develop, deploy, and maintain the information technology environment. It includes jobs applicable to application development and maintenance computing systems architecture, delivery systems/computing infrastructure, data management, networking and communications, mathematics and modeling, and advanced technology.


Job Family Description:

Plans, executes, and finalizes projects in strict adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and the associated change processes. Applies knowledge of project/program management disciplines, methods and tools, knowledge of lifecycle management methodologies (e.g., CMMI and ITIL), and knowledge of a number of general information technology to manage computing projects. Managing a computing project includes: project configuration management, strategic and tactical project planning, project cost control, allocation of project resources, providing status, mentoring, and other specialized skills related to information technology environments. Prepares appropriate project documents as directed by the guiding methodologies to address scope, schedule, budget, team structure, status and all other relevant areas to the project/program leadership for review and approval. The project manager drives the cadence of the activities and resolves questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, controls, etc. through interfaces with information technology and other organizations as necessary to ensure project success.

  • Facilitate meetings: scheduling, agenda/objectives, outcomes, action items



  • Follow up
  • Cross train responsibilities/document when appropriate
  • Management of deliverables
  • Recurring tasks (daily, weekly, monthly)
  • Time management


Deployment project management

  • Establishing metric to track progress
  • Baselining/updating baselines
  • Visual representation of progress
  • Project planning template

  • Organizational readiness assessment



  • Microsoft Project – including basic macros
  • Excel – data analysis, summarization, visualization
  • Sharepoint – administration, configuration of tools for collaboration
