Summary Description   Clayco is passionate about using Art, Design, Build and Technology to improve construction.  The Information Technology team at Clayco integrates technology into our efforts to help revolutionize the Construction Technology industry.  The Product Owner has content authority for the Program Backlog.  The Product Owner is responsible for identifying Customer needs, prioritizing Features, guiding the work through the Program Kanban and developing the program Vision and Roadmap in the Construction Technology industry.  The Product Owner is responsible for the stewardship of mission-critical software-based business solutions across a portfolio of business accounts, where a business account may represent a specific Clayco business unit or even the broader Clayco enterprise as a whole. These business solutions are intended to facilitate/optimize the key workflows and processes of their business users and the Product Owner is charged with regularly gauging whether this expectation is being met and proactively engaging in remediation efforts when technology solutions are falling short. The Product Owner leads the IT Business Solutions team. In a nutshell, the Business Solutions team is a team of Product Owners that interface between the broader Clayco business and IT. They usually help oversee the cohesion of multiple product/service verticals and they should be the guiding light on the process and tools used to report the product team’s direction. They are the stabilizing and negotiating hand that ensure teams are operating with synergy and maintaining an ongoing dialogue with key stakeholders. They know when to step in to support a Product Owner and they, most importantly, know when to step back from the Product Owner to let them flourish.   Key Responsibilities

  • Understand customer needs and validate solutions – Product Owner is the internal voice of the customer and works with customers to constantly understand and communicate their needs and participate in the validation of the proposed solutions.
  • Understand and supportportfolio work – Product Owner has a responsibility to understand the budget for the upcoming fiscal period, understand how Strategic Themes influence the strategic direction
  • Develop and communicate the program vision and roadmap – Product Owner continuously develops and communicates the vision to the development teams and defines the features of the system. In collaboration with System and Solution Architect/Engineering, they also define and maintain the Nonfunctional Requirements (NFRs) to help ensure that the solution meets relevant standards and other system quality requirements. They are responsible for the roadmap, which illustrates, at a high level, how features are intended to be implemented over time.
  • Manage and prioritize the flow of work – Product Owner manages the flow of work through the program Kanban and into the program backlog. Product Owner is responsible for making sure that there are enough features ready in the backlog at all times. For example, they have feature acceptance criteria that can be used to establish that it meets its Definition of Done (DoD).
  • Define releases – Owning the ‘what’ means that Product Owner is largely responsible for release definition as well, including new features, architecture, and allocations for technical debt. This is accomplished through a series of releases, whose definition and business objectives are also determined by Product Owner.  Product Owner works with release Owner, where applicable, to decide when enough value has been accrued to warrant a release to the customer.
  • Product Owner team is the key to efficient and effective development. Such a team also contributes materially to the job satisfaction that comes with being part of a high-performing team, one that routinely delivers on its quality and vision commitments.
  • Develop a detailed understanding/awareness of the workflows and processes that take place within assigned business accounts; leverage that knowledge to provide informed recommendations to business stakeholders regarding the practical use of technology
  • Guide business stakeholders through the process of evaluating specific technologies that can impact how they do their day-to-day work (i.e. technology/software/vendor evaluation and selection)
  • Guide business stakeholders in gaining clarity and effectively articulating specific business needs where technology can have an impact (i.e. requirements gathering)
  • Coordinate with the other members of the IT Business Solutions team to schedule resources from the IT Engineering and IT Development teams for their account’s IT projects
  • Collaborate with IT Engineering, IT Development and Service Desk teams to effectively translate business requirements into functional requirements that engineers and developers can understand and take concrete action on
  • Develop and facilitate the execution of work plans for IT projects; regularly communicate timelines and set expectations of business stakeholders throughout the end-to-end process
  • Manage the process for handling changing business requirements through the course of active IT projects 
  • Ensure quality of formal test plans for technology solutions based on business requirements 
  • Manage relationships with and provide direction to 3rd party consultants engaged to help implement and configure technology solutions, customize vendor software, etc.
  • Lead UAT sessions with key business users 
  • Facilitate collaboration between Help Desk and key business stakeholders to deliver end-user training and ongoing customer support for implemented technology solutions
  • Regularly monitor the “health” of technology solutions for assigned business accounts; facilitate escalation procedures when a critical issue impacts an active technology solution 
  • Evangelize the standards and processes that IT uses to evaluate, implement, and support software-based business solutions with key stakeholders from assigned business accounts
  • Serve as an advocate on behalf of assigned business accounts in portfolio planning meetings where priorities for IT projects are regularly analyzed and set 
  • Actively track availability of updates for vendor software applications; apprise business stakeholders and guide them through the process of evaluating the pros/cons of implementing updates or keeping existing versions of software
  • Actively monitor for end-of-life of versions of vendor software applications actively used by business users; facilitate the process of implementing necessary updates in a timely manner
  • Communicate scheduled updates for technology solutions to business users in a timely manner; facilitate planning efforts of assigned business accounts by effectively articulating potential impacts on day-to-day work 
  • Negotiate licensing and maintenance fees with 3rd party vendors
  • Manage all licensing for vendor software applications in use by business accounts
  • Facilitate legal review of all applicable 3rd party agreements
  • Ensure quality and timely production of documentation for all key meetings with business stakeholders, business requirements, functional specifications, project plans, test plans, training and support plans
  • Provide day-to-day direction and mentorship to junior staff playing a supporting role on business accounts


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required; graduate/advanced degree and/or PMP certification highly preferred 
  • 8+ years of experienceworking with clients in a consultative manner to solve business problems using technology and data-driven techniques
  • 3+ years of experience in Agile Methodology (Kanban and Scrum)
  • Prior use of JIRA and CONFLUENCE tools
  • Working knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts preferred
  • Proven ability to “delight” clients through excellent customer service
  • Proven ability to apply critical thinking with natural curiosity to distill detailed functional requirements for technology solutions based on input from business users
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to translate technical or abstract concepts into a narrative that is intuitive to clients
  • Proven ability to present complex data in a visual format that is intuitive to clients 
  • Proven ability to lead small teams to deliver results in a timely and effective manner
