Major Duties/Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have an in-depth level skill set, perform advanced analysis, and provide advanced problem solving to maintain and administer the research cyberinfrastructure resources used to support the research mission of the University. The responsibilities of the System Administrator includes, but is not limited to: coordinating the configuration and maintenance of the storage resources, including hardware and software; configure and maintain server-class, HPC resources, including hardware, OS software, application software installed with the OS package management tool, and resource management system; supporting the Senior System Administrator with maintaining the computational resources; maintaining an effective security posture including implementing the required security controls specified in the system security plan; diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, networking, and system issues when they arise; monitoring services and responding to service failures; implementing configuration management processes and procedures; providing technical support and user support as needed; documenting processes and procedures to administer and maintain the storage and computational systems and infrastructure; supporting the research cyberinfrastructure portal and database; ensuring required backups are performed regularly and successfully; and working with other OIT groups, such as, Networking Services, Help Desk, and Systems to support the continued and efficient operation of the storage and computational and infrastructure resources.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other related scientific and/or engineering discipline
• Three years performing storage administration or system administration of HPC or cluster resources in a research environment
• Three years experience with Red Hat or CentOS 7 (Linux) in an HPC environment
• In-depth knowledge of system administrator or storage administrator duties, issues, technologies, and best practices
• Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
• The ability to work independently and prioritize assignments with minimal supervision and as a member of a team
• The ability to be responsive to colleague and researcher inquiries while handling these requests with courtesy and professionalism
• Due the Secure Enclave environment the successful candidate(s) must be a U. S. citizen or resident alien with a green card.
Desired Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in Computer Science or scientific and/or engineering discipline is preferred
• Experience with high performance (10 Gbps+) IP and Infiniband networks
• In-depth knowledge of virtualization technologies, such as, VMWare
• In-depth knowledge of script writing in Perl, Python, and/or bash
• Knowledge developing with or using Django
• Knowledge using postgreSQL database version 10 or later
• Experience with use of SLURM and/or Torque and Moab
• Experience with the use of Microsoft productivity tools, such as, Teams, OneDrive, and Sharepoint
• Experience with parallel file systems, such as, GPFS or Lustre
