Job Description and Requirements

The IT Network Security Engineer is responsible for providing enterprise-wide technical support and customer service for network connectivity and management products and services. The incumbent will also assist management and engineering team with near and long term network assessments, security requirements, and capacity planning.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide detailed implementation and maintenance procedures for all advanced network services including WAN, LAN, data center, wireless, perimeter protection, business services infrastructure, and other technical hardware as required; Engineer III should be able to handle all tasks without supervision Develop technical strategy and recommendations for secure network operations to deliver capacity, reliability, and sustainability
  • Research and recommend tools and processes to maintain and improve a flexible, reliable network infrastructure
  • Assist level I and II engineers with advanced administration and configuration activities
  • Assist management with design, test, and installation activities
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for any system assigned as lead technician. SME can expect to perform in-depth research and support on configurations, supported services, site-specific documentation, troubleshooting, and internal training
  • Participate in project and system integration activities with other IT sections including UNIX, database, windows, telecommunications, web, branch technology, and security administrators; help desk and desktop support, and software developers
  • Identify network system monitoring and proactive alerting requirements for major alarms and events; coordinate corrective actions with Network Operations Center, administrators, vendors, and business partners when necessary
  • Coordinate with vendors and business partners to ensure proper installation of new service and equipment in corporate and branch locations
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to establish/maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, employees and the general public
  • Any other duties as assigned by management

  • High School Diploma/ GED
  • 3-5 years of recent experience supporting the data, voice and security functions of an organization on a full time basis

Skills, Certifications, and Licensing:

  • Must have expert knowledge of networking technologies including WAN, LAN, data center, firewall, and VPN concepts
  • Experience with design principles ensuring security, including broad knowledge of information security principles
  • Current CCNP preferred, current CISSP or CCDP a plus
  • Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends and holidays, and be available on-call as needed
