Job Description

The instructional design manager for General Education will lead and develop a team for WGU’s Academic Programs department. The individual will ensure industry standards and processes are applied to and aligned with departmental goals and objectives. The manager will effectively influence change in a highly matrixed organization while ensuring the timelines and objectives of the assigned college team’s strategies and initiatives are met in a timely manner.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensures overall quality, consistency, and functionality of all work by team members to ensure a high level of performance and engagement of all team members, and design processes and best practices are deployed in a consistent manner
  • Holds direct reports accountable to performance metrics
  • Provides measurable feedback to direct reports and suggestions for improved performance
  • Identifies process improvements that will result in the best potential outcomes for all stakeholders
  • Develops and implements strategic initiatives to support projected growth within the assigned college team
  • Researches business strategies and recommends best practices and changes in technology related to the performance of the assigned college team’s initiatives
  • Works with cross-functional teams to determine current and future direction and create collaboration, including with the Learning Experience team on behalf of the college
  • Uses quantitative and qualitative data to identify trends in issues related to instructional design and create strategies and recommendations for improvement and resolution
  • Models excellent instructional design practices and efficient course development processes, contributes to the improvement of learning design through innovative solutions, and mentors others on the team on best practices and processes
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure timelines and deadlines are proactively met, assisting with instructional design work when necessary

Required Experience

Basic Requirements

  • Master's degree in relevant field
  • 5+ years of experience as an instructional designer for online courses
  • Experience in people management or project leadership

PreferredQualifications

  • Doctorate degree
  • Instructional Design experience in online higher education
  • Advanced experience in instructional design for competency-based education
  • Teaching experience in higher education
  • Web design experience
