ECLIPSE (Evolution of Cancer, Leukemia and Immunity Project) is a novel organization within the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, with the mission of making MDACC and its partners recognized leaders in the identification and development of innovative immunooncology therapies that will cure all hematologic malignancies.
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual with expertise in immunology to evaluate the role of immune response in patients with hematological malignancies. The successful candidate will participate in cross-functional research using state-of-the-art molecular and bioinformatics techniques to identify unique tumor/immune specific micro-environmental cues that impact T-cell function, activation, differentiation and trafficking. The candidate must have solid understanding of tumor immunology and biology. The selected candidate will be expected to work at the bench but also manage direct reports. Previous experience in biotech/pharma is highly preferred.
Salary range: Min $148,500 - Mid $185,750 - Max $223,000
· Leverage a strong scientific background in cancer immunology to identify and evaluate immune cells that mediate responses in patients with advanced hematological malignancies.
· Design and develop an integrative pipeline for analysis of immune modulatory molecules to drive drug discovery projects. Apply different cell and molecular biology tools, including high throughput approaches to immune cell target identification and validation.
· Execute research projects in a multidisciplinary and exciting team environment and supervise research activities of direct reports. Ensure scientific excellence, quality and completeness of programs in a timely manner.
· Represent ECLIPSE externally through presentations at key National/International meetings, interact with MDACC and outside investigators and clinicians.
Require: PhD in one of the natural sciences or related field or Medical degree.
Preferred: PhD in Immunology, Cancer biology, Virology or a related discipline
Required: Nine years experience of relevant research experience in lab.
Preferred: At least twelve (12) years of relevant experience in a research environment with supervisory experience in guiding direct reports.
•Comprehensive technical expertise in design and development of diverse in vitro immunoassays in whole blood, bone marrow, T-cells, B-cells, NK cells, monocytes and macrophages.
•In depth understanding of T-cell subsets, development, and surface markers.
•In depth understanding of interactions of peptide/HLA ligand with cognate T-cell receptor.
•Extensive experience in statistical and bioinformatic approaches as applied to the immune system and effector cells: e.g. experience in TCR sequencing, BCR sequencing, immunopeptidome analyses and prediction of potential neo antigens.
•Strong understanding of innate and adaptive immune system along with inhibitory and co-stimulatory molecules and associated downstream signal transduction networks.
•In depth knowledge and application of methods used in multi-color flow cytometry, primary culture, cell biology and functional analysis of immune cells.
•Strong in vivo pharmacology skills are a plus.
•Ability to evaluate and recommend new therapeutic concepts in the field of immune modulation.
•Strong bioinformatics and data analysis skills, ability to interpret results and contribute to design of follow-up experiments, troubleshoot issues, and effectively present results and conclusions to co-workers, collaborators and senior leadership.
•Track record of success as illustrated by a strong publication record and/or authorship on patents.
•Strong results-driven personality with high level of enthusiasm, energy and confidence.
•Excellent analytical, communication, organizational and presentation skills are essential.
•Proven leadership skills required to direct small research teams, including providing sound scientific direction, leading scientific discourse, as well as building and motivating teams.
•Demonstrated excellence and productivity in independent research.
