The Chemours Titanium Technologies Product Development Organization located in Wilmington, DE has a Research Scientist Position available. Our scientists work in research and development that range from longer term research to short term research for new product development. 

The open position is in the New Product Development group for the Titanium Technologies business of the Chemours Company. This Inorganic Chemist will play a leading role in the commercialization of new titanium dioxide grades and adjacent technologies.   The applicant will liaise between synthetic, application and analytical scientists, both internal and external to the company.  The successful candidate will be responsible for collaboratively determining analytical needs for various synthesis programs, identifying facilities capable of satisfying these needs (both in-house and external), arranging sample analyses, and interpreting results in a way that advances progress in new product development.  The role includes the identification and development of structure / function relationships based on analytic and application results.  Broad knowledge of analytical techniques that can be applied to solid state materials, and the interpretation of their results, is required. 

The successful applicant will be a part of a cross-functional team, which includes marketing, sales, operations and other members of R&D with the goal of developing novel titanium dioxide and related technologies/materials to drive business growth.

Responsibilities to include but not  limited to:

  • Lead product development efforts in the Titanium Technologies business
  • Provide strong analytical guidance and interpretation in collaboration with other scientists
  • Plan and conduct experiments to generate new candidate titanium dioxide and adjacent materials relevant to current as well as new market spaces
  • Organize and develop appropriate testing of candidate materials according to relevant industry parameters
  • Support commercialization efforts by working with project managers, peers and technicians to address structure / function relationships of materials
  • Identify resources and opportunities to improve data output and expand technologies into new end uses
  • Work with business personnel to develop and understand value propositions for internally developed technologies
  • Interface with customers, suppliers and plant personnel as appropriate
  • Maintain and/or further develop partnerships with universities and/or institutes to assist in candidate Titanium Dioxide materials idea generation as well as further enhance predictive testing capability

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • A Ph.D. in Solid State; Inorganic Chemistry or Material Sciences
  • 5-10 years of experience
  • Strong knowledge and experience in the application of analytical techniques to solid state materials
  • Ability to develop structure / function relationships based on analytic results
  • Ability to supervise lab support personnel
  • Ability to lead cross-functional research teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively work on several projects simultaneously
  • Excellent team player
  • Commitment to safety

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:

  • 3+ years industrial product development or analytic technologiesexperience
  • Demonstration of strong collaborative skills
  • Familiarity with analytical technologies available at national laboratories, universities and analytical services companies
  • Understanding of surface science
  • Experience presenting to key stakeholders
