We are seeking a high-impact Innovation and Strategy Director in Minneapolis, MN supporting our Global Product Design team.  This role will be the lead driver of change and growth by combining innovation best practices, ethnography, and strategy development with strong technical acumen, external orientation, and global experience.  The Global Product Design Director will lead teams thru innovation process, building deep consumer empathy, and leveraging intuition to link insights to action.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Innovation Thought Leadership
    • Leverage insights for influencing strategic direction of company and businesses; coach divisional and corporate teams on developing long-range strategy and creating robust ideas for new product pipelines
    • Courageously challenge the status quo and old constructs to unlock new insights and ways of working
    • External orientation and network cultivation
    • Global experiences providing diversity of thought and empathy for global consumer and market drivers
    • Identify weak signals and assess potential strategic importance (fad or fundamental to understand)
    • Facilitation of teams through early discovery work to gain new insights from core consumers
    • Facilitation of new product ideations and the development of consumer driven portfolios for business success
  • Designers Mindset
    • Tenure in product and/or packaging design (technical experience)
    • High technical acumen to 1) understand technical information and application and 2) connect insights to product design
    • Champion of leveraging consumer empathy to understand the jobs to be done and translation of critical design principles into differentiated solutions
  • Organizational Leadership
    • Coaching and development of team and individuals
    • Priority and project management for team

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in related field requied.  MS/MBA degreepreferred
  • The qualified candidate must have a minimum 13+ years of related experience: food science, research, design, innovation, technical learning, consumer insights, marketing, etc
  • Global experience strongly preferred
  • Proven people leadership
  • Ability to apply content from areas, beyond science, to form recommendations, plans or strategies
  • Effective project management skills with ability to manage diverse projects with varying degrees of complexity from various stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills – written and oral
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively build relationships and networks across different levels and groups across General Mills and externally
  • Effective influence, collaboration and leadership skills
  • Ability to deliver in a fast-paced environment of frequent change
