Job Description

The Security Specialist II assists in enforcing the established information security policies, standards, and procedures and participates in implementations to ensure security requirements and appropriate guidelines and controls are incorporated into the business processes, systems, and infrastructure. The Security Specialist II performs risk assessments of systems, applications, and networks to identify weaknesses and ensure the effectiveness of internal controls in reducing risk. The Security Specialist II Lead the BSWH HIPAA Security Assessment program including performing required HIPAA Assessment and Remediation processes with minimal direction from the IS Risk Management leadership. The Security Specialist II conducts interviews and assists BSWH staff in mitigating potential HIPAA issues utilizing established and new processes and procedures while ensuring security requirements and appropriate guidelines and controls are in place. The Security Specialist II makes recommendations to the IS Risk Management leadership to drive improvements to the BSWH HIPAA program and provides well written assessment reports as required to integrate all collected information in the defined eGRC application. The Security Specialist II will also have the following duties, including but not limited to:

      • Correlate data and reports from various sources, make logical inferences about that data, and be able to publish results.

      • Develop tools and scripts to aid in data processing or other aspects of log and/or security research as it pertains to the HIPAA program

      • Make / Implement recommendations for process and procedural improvements

      • Provide assistance in reviewing firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and enterprise anti-virus software

    • Perform analysis of vulnerability scans as requested to determine potential exposure

The ideal Security Specialist II will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or Similar Degree Program combined with a minimum of 8 years of experience. The ideal Security Specialist II will possess in-depth technical understanding and demonstrated abilities in applying security related knowledge for practical and timely outcomes. The ideal Security Specialist II will have mature and in-depth knowledge of Information Security technology and best practices and knowledge of network protocols, operating systems, risk analysis, risk mitigation and general remediation. The ideal Security Specialist II will also possess the following skills, including but not limited to:

      • Analytical skills with sound and logical problem-solving capabilities

      • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively explain complex concepts to others in layman terms

      • Ability to work with others in teams and share analysis and collaborate well on problems

      • Self-motivated to identify and resolve issues combined with the ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure

      • Ability to work on a variety of work assignments or projects simultaneously

    • HIPAA Security experience strongly preferred
