What You Will Do


This position will be filled at either the Cybersecurity Technical Staff 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.


Information System Security Analyst (CTS-1) $81,700 - $133,100


We are seeking creative and highly motivated Information System Security Analysts (ISSA) to join our team. The ISSA will enable a portfolio of exciting and challenging national security scientific research. Successful candidates for this position will work with interdisciplinary teams to build elegant and secure computing solutions to enable world class results for our stakeholders. The Special Security IT and Cyber Operations group (SSO-3) is an integral part of the Sensitive and Special Operations (SSO) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and has core capabilities in the implementation of IT and network technologies for high security environments.


SSO Division is responsible for the operation of special security facilities at LANL and remote sites. These operations enable world class contributions in the areas of Emerging Threats, Energy Security, and Nuclear Threats and Deterrence. Our teams of dedicated and collaborative professionals architect and implement secure computing environments which are leveraged to answer the nation's most difficult questions related to global and nuclear security.


Aspects of the Special Security Cyber Operations involves the following types of work:


• Assist ISSOs and the ISSM in the development and implementation of the overall cybersecurity posture for classified computing systems within the LANL Field Intelligence Element (FIE).


• Participate in projects related to significant and/or complex cyber issues with multi-disciplinary mission focused teams to analyze and interpret national cybersecurity requirements to enable world class scientific research.


• Identify, develop, and implement solutions for cyber threats and vulnerabilities


• Evaluate and recommend new tools to enhance the maturity of the FIE cybersecurity posture.


• Participate in reviews, assessments, development of security plans, and publications relevant to the classified security systems.


Infomormation System Security Officer (CTS-2) $90,000 - $147,100


In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level, successful candidates will be primary or alternate ISSOs for DOE-IN or Strategic Partner systems to support global security missions and programs. Candidates will apply and further develop expertise on the intersection of cybersecurity requirements and program requirements to ensure mission success.


What You Need


Minimum Job Requirements:



• Knowledge of one or more of the following disciplines: cybersecurity, information security, information assurance, or computer science with an emphasis on security.


• Knowledge of implementing NIST controls, risk assessments, and contingency planning activities.


• Experience communicating technical issues and cybersecurity metrics to non-technical audiences


• Experience developing cooperative working relationships with colleagues and within work teams.


• Experience taking initiative to implement cybersecurity workflows and contribute to process improvements.


• Ability to obtain DOE Q/SCI Clearance which normally requires U.S. citizenship.


Additional Job Requirements for Cybersecurity Technical Staff 2:


In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:


• Knowledge of distributed systems, including system architectures, computer networks, and software.


• Knowledge of classic and contemporary cyber threats and vulnerabilities to inform risk evaluation and mitigation strategies, system engineering, and improved operations.


• NIST Risk Management Framework, ICD 503 implementation, or JSIG.


Education/Experience at lower level: This position requires a Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Education/Experience at higher level: This position requires a Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Desired Qualifications:


• Active "Q" and SCI, or equivalent transferable, clearance


• Experience working in secure facilities with classified computing


• Knowledge of DoE and/or DoD national information assurance policies


• Experience with IT/cyber audits and assessments


• Technical knowledge of IT and network technologies and concepts


Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.


Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.


Clearance: Q/SCI(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.


*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.


New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.


Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.


Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
