Finance Transformation is currently looking for an Information Architect who will support the University’s large-scale project to modernize its finance operations, business systems and processes. The position is a role in the newly established UW Finance Transformation Technical team (FTT).
Working directly with UW Finance service providers, partners, and customers, the Information Architect will design an information architecture(s) that will provide customers with a straightforward journey as they navigate finance-related content management systems, consume information, obtain self-help, and complete tasks. You will directly shape the design and management of Finance Shared Services content solutions, and will provide guidelines and standards that will allow distributed finance service providers to align their information architectures to that of Shared Services, even while maintained in multiple repositories.
You will apply your expertise with user centered design (UCD) to define and document user needs, and design information architectures, content management processes, and guidelines and standards that will provide a positive and straightforward user experience with UW Finance service providers.
In performing this role, you will become familiar with the existing range of content available for customer self-help, information, and support requests – some of which will remain after Finance Shared Services is launched. You will also become familiar with plans for new content, and will provide a strategy for transitioning to the future state.
The Information Architect owns the user experience vision, which will be driven by an anticipated experience; this will later be informed by actual experience, so it will be critical to establish feedback mechanisms and an iterative approach to realizing an optimal user experience. The User Experience vision must remain clear to solution team members and be communicated effectively across the organization. To this end, the UXD works both alone and collaboratively, as part of the larger Design team and in conjunction with project teams in Agile development, taking the lead in ensuring that the user experience and good UCD process is driving all aspects of decision making, from design to implementation.
Bachelor’s Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Four years of experience creating web experiences that support end-user & business needs, as understood through user research.
Demonstrated experience with the user-centered design process, user research design and customer journey mapping.
Experience in developing categorization schemas to group information and self help
Experience conducting user research through card sorts, log stat analysis, surveys, interviews, usability studies, and other user research methods.
Ability to independently plan, conduct, and analyze user research studies and determine how to apply the information gained to web properties.
Demonstrated clear communication of complex ideas to a variety of audiences, using words, pictures, and interactions.
Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.
Basic knowledge of web accessibility standards/WCAG guidelines.
Excellent teamwork skills.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Experience in working with web content management systems, ideally with ServiceNow (Service Portal and
Knowledge Portal), WordPress and Wiki
Experience in working with distributed service delivery teams, who may be managing content in disparate systems
Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS, including web semantics
Demonstrated experience in designing accessible content management solutions.
Understanding of mobile-first, responsive web, and adaptive web practices.
Experience working with large, complex, and varied information through the user-centered design process.
