The University of Southern California (USC) department of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking an Incident Response Lead with an exceptional commitment to service excellence to join its team.
As an Incident Response Lead you will be an integral member of the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer– Security Operations team, collaborating with diverse and talented team members to help solve multidimensional information technology problems, improve customer experience, and generate value for our campus stakeholders across a broad base of departments and constituencies.
THE WORK YOU WILL DO
The Incident Response Lead independently decides on and defines approaches for complex cases. Leads the investigation, coordination, resolution, closure and reporting on security incidents as they are escalated or identified, and forensically analyzes systems, servers and artifacts. Mentors other team members in security operations incident response processes and procedures, assists in formulating best
practices for incident response and forensic investigations, and manages, improves and updates
processes and procedural documentation. Serves as a subject-matter expert in digital forensics
and incident response investigations.

Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 5 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Knowledge of network security zones, firewalls, and IDS. Knowledge of log formats for syslog, HTTP logs, DB logs and how to gather forensics for traceability back to event. Knowledge of packet capture and analysis. Experience with log management or security information management tools. Experience with Security Assessment tools (NMAP, Nessus, Metasploit, Netcat). Ability to make information security risk determinations. Effective verbal and written communication skills. High level of critical thinking to filter case data.
