  • Conceptualize, design, develop and demonstrate concepts and algorithms for image processing systems.
  • Design test fixtures and tooling, test procedures, and other manufacturing support functions required to consistently produce quality camera systems namely utilizing the ATE systems.
  • Provide analytical support of image processing system performance to the product development teams.
  • Perform research and development of new image processing techniques for use in future products.
  • Support the critical review of competitor products and based on the results, document competitor's weakness and recommend improvements to KSI products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: List the essential duties and responsibilities of the position, in order of importance and/or amount of time spent.

  • Analyses and Modeling
  • Perform system modeling of our camera systems components, which include imagers, CDS sampling, and DSP image processing.
  • Develop means (tests) of analyzing imaging systems to objectively quantify performance.
  • Determine methods of communicating the analytical results with the rest of the Engineering staff.
  • Determine, where appropriate, empirical methods, to validate analytical models. If necessary, update the model assumptions and/or empirical methods to correlate the results.
  • Document the results of the analyses in technical reports.
  • Algorithm Development
  • Develop image processing algorithms for single chip and three chip, interlaced and progressive scan imagers
  • Develop methods to determine if the FPGA implementation is consistent with the model and support the verification process.
  • Research and develop new image processing techniques, solutions for use in future and existing KSI products.
  • Project Development Teams
  • Provide objective image analysis assistance for the Engineering and Manufacturing personnel during the various design phases.
  • Contribute design ideas, constraints, trade-offs, and concerns to the Project Managers
  • Participate in and/or perform the critical reviewer function during design reviews. Identify holes, concerns, and possible problems associated with the design and/or manufacturing processes relating to the image processing component in products.
  • Sustaining Support
  • Provide sustaining support for existing product lines. This may include analysis and resolution of field issues and/or manufacturing issues.
  • Determine validation test requirements to isolate and help correct sustaining problems.
  • Design, implement, test, and validate new test requirements and methods utilizing the ATE.
  • Perform competitive evaluation and comparison to KSI products. Make recommendations for product improvements based on thing learned.
  • General Engineering
  • Provide support and technical direction for the generation and maintenance of the Design Assurance Checks.
  • Regular attendance is an essential job function.
  • Will spend part of his/her time as a member of continuous improvement teams undertaking projects and seeking ways to improve the quality of KSI's products and services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: What does a person in this position need to be able to do?

  • Experience using computer simulation software namely Matlab and Simulink)
  • Experience with and competent knowledge of NTSC/PAL video systems.
  • Understanding of color and black and white, single and three chip, interlaced and progressive scan, CCD and CMOS imager technology
  • Linear system decomposition and analysis.
  • Knowledgeable of image processing techniques
  • Knowledgeable of DSP image processing techniques, including round off, sampling theory, interpolation techniques, filtering, etc.
  • Knowledge of medical device quality system regulations and standards (eg, U.S. FDA Quality System Regulation 21CFR Part 820, ISO13485, ISO9001)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: What is the usual educational background and work experience of an individual qualified to perform this job?

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, emphasis in Signal Processing or related field with 5-8 years of experience in image processing design, analog/digital system design and analysis or Masters of Science in Image Processing or related field with 3-6 years of experience in image processing design, analog/digital system design and analysis.
  • Experience in DSP techniques, algorithm development, and applications.
  • Design and familiarity with FPGAs a plus.
  • Familiarity with Endoscopy a plus.


  • Visual acuity sufficient for testing
  • Ability to sit for extended periods (during meetings and computer work)
  • Ability to lift video equipment (approx. 20 lbs)
  • Ability to connect electrical devices
