The Human Resources Manager is a key position within PNR RailWorks that will partner with all operations and the corporate organization. Located in the Guelph, ON office, this position will report directly to the Executive Vice President of PNR. The HR Manager will be a part of the RailWorks organization working alongside the U.S. HR team.
The HR Manager will provide HR support to all field operations, including Canadian labor law and general employment matters. Working closely with the U.S. HR organization and local PNR business units, this individual will oversee PNR staffing, labor relations, employee relations, talent and performance management, compensation benefits and employee development. The HR MANAGER will oversee HR processes, practices, policies and procedures ensuring that all are implemented and followed with consistency throughout PNR. The HR Manager will work closely with Safety and Legal in providing training programs and meeting all requirements respective of local and provincial regulations.
The HR Manager will manage the link between our operations, business success and human resources strategy for PNR. This individual will apply and manage best practices related to employee relations and employment practices in order to create a positive, ethical and effective work environment. The HR Manager will partner with the business units, PNR and corporate functions, such as payroll and the U.S. HR organization, to create trust and earn credibility to work closely with field employees, providing guidance as needed, a confidential resource for employees to seek out, and as needed, will interpret policies, processes and procedures.
This will be a hands-on role with responsibility throughout Canada; bi-lingual, English and French is strongly preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities*
Oversees and operates in a proactive manner in the areas of labor and employment practices throughout Canada.
Facilitates and provides ongoing training to the workforce for compliance and Canadian labor and employment practices.
Maintains up to date knowledge of HR related regulations, best practices and trends.
Works with Unions and collective bargaining agreements.
Partners with field management and employees at all levels to communicate various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations.
Responds to employee relations issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations, and human rights complaints.
Will provide coaching and advice to employees at all levels of the organization.
Provides guidance in recommending appropriate salary for new positions and promotions.
Will work with all field locations providing information and education for performance management, benefits, salary administration, recruitment, drug & alcohol programs, safety programs and employee relations as required programs.
Conducts new hire orientation as appropriate.
Supports all levels of management in providing guidance and direction related to performance appraisals and goals & objectives.
Will partner with the US HR organization and field management in developing and implementing entry level programs to attract, hire, develop and retain new and top talent into the Company to be the next generation of management and significant individual contributors to meet the market demands of the future.
25-30% travel primarily in Canada, with occasional trips to the U.S.
* * Minimum of 10 years HR experience, with at least 5 of those in a Business Partner or Manager role.
Bachelor degree required, Master’s degree and/or certifications preferred.
Strong working knowledge of Canadian labor law.
Previous experience with unions and labor negotiations.
Ability to travel 25-30% primarily in Canada, with occasional trips to the U.S.
Willingness to work in an extremely hands-on role
