This position has responsibility for all HR activities for the Alcoa Lake Charles Calcined Coke Operation. This position needs to partner and guide the leadership teams in translating business strategy into HR action that drives business.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Translating business strategy into HR strategy
  • Assist leadership with strategic and operational projects to address business challenges
  • Negotiate labor initiatives and issues with local USW
  • Creating a diverse workforce and inclusive environment
  • Review and propose changes to current organizational design to reduce cost and increase business profitability
  • Create / maintain positive employee relations environment
  • Lead the internal audit process (ASAT) for the location
  • Change management and continuous improvement
  • Talent management including training and development oversight
  • Developing, interpreting and administrating Alcoa’s policy and procedures in the Human Resource area
  • State and Federal employment laws
  • Drive community involvement initiatives and activities
  • Assist global Business Unit leaders and their teams for general HR demands outside of the plant (may require up to 25% of travel)

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in HR, Business or related field of study. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Employee relations experience
  • 5 years of progressive supervisory and managerial skills experience in a manufacturing facility with particular knowledge of all aspects of the Human Resource function.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Experience and human relations skills to be able to work effectively at all levels of the organization.

  • Creating/maintaining positive employee relations environment
  • Ability to manage both strategically and operationally, with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to influence and communicate across the spectrum of the workforce (i.e. from management through to operators and maintainers)
  • Experience leading in a team based environment
