The HR Business Partner for Ciena’s 1500 person Packet Optical R&D organization will join the Global Products and Services HR Team and support the business in all aspects of talent management.
A genuine interest in the packet optical business as well as a strong work ethic and sense of humour are key to being successful in this role.

While this is an individual contributor role, the ability to work with and through other teams (the NA HR Connect team, the global HR team, the Packet Optical leadership team, etc.) is key.
As part of the Packet Optical Leadership Team, engage with the business to define a talent agenda that supports the goals for this R&D organization.
Look after the “executive health” of the Packet Optical Leadership Team, at an individual level through coaching, and at a team level through team development activities.
Work with the business to proactively address attraction, retention and engagement issues as it relates to their parts of the business.
Provide “organization design” and “change management” expertise to ensure that the structure of this large R&D organization is optimized to meets financial commitments and business goals.
Effectively manage and mediate conflict to avoid escalations.
Influence the workforce plan of the global R&D organization
Work with the HR Connect team and Talent Acquisitions teams to ensure efficient HRsupport across the organization.
Manage risk with regards to local legislation and practices globally, with the support of local SMES, as it relates to any related HR activity e.g. performance management, employee relations, discipline, restructuring, terminations, etc.
Ensure the effective delivery of core global HR programs (e.g. performance discussions, merit, talent reviews, succession planning, key talent retention, etc.).
Work with the Internal Communications team to ensure timely dissemination of information that drives engagement and awareness.
Work with the Total Rewards team to ensure competitive positioning in our key markets with regard to compensation and benefits.
Ensure learning needs are being identified and addressed, working with the Learning and Development team as required.
Liaise with other HR Business Partners on site specific HR matters, as well as common HR agendas with respect to our R&D organizations.
Encourage and participate in the development and mentorship of other members in the HR function and the business.
Participate in global projects, People Plan commitments, and other initiatives.
Strong HR generalist background, combined with an international mindset (10+ years experience)
Must have an HR background in high tech
