High Performance Computing (HPC) presently represents a key market for NVIDIA. HPC researchers and scientists are actively adopting GPU programming into their work to accelerate the performance of their scientific applications. To enable the process of onboarding these technical users to GPUs, we are collaborating with Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility, to lead a series of GPU hackathons. Hackathons are brief -- typically one week in duration -- intensive coding sessions where experienced mentors team up with groups of researchers to accelerate and optimize code on GPUs using a variety of programming models and tools.

With fast growing demand for GPU use in the scientific community, we are looking for an HPC Advocate to lead the rapidly expanding GPU hackathon program. In this position you will craft the complete experience of GPU hackathon attendees, as you will schedule, facilitate, and track participant progress; you will closely collaborate with scientists at universities, supercomputing centers and other organizations to help their users begin applying GPUs to their work, promote their research, and build a thriving community. You will document and track progress of each coder over time, and where applicable, create assets that promote the resulting success stories. Do you have a passion for connecting with people, and also for managing rich data sets that inform people on how to work more effectively? Are you comfortable working with highly technical team members in a rigorous and creative scientific environment? If so, we wish to talk with you right away!

What you'll be doing:

  • Recruit sites that will host successful hackathons and guide their team members through the planning process
  • Assess resource requirements of each hackathon and identify any gaps to delivering a quality experience for all participants
  • Identify and recruit key codes to participate
  • Assist with identifying and recruiting mentors
  • Moderate events, build and refine training materials, and mentor team members at the events
  • Collect information and help coordinate on-site hosting activities
  • Write comprehensive internal feedback reports and identify opportunities for improvements
  • Promote event successes through publishing blogs and papers, facilitating presentations, and using other media that convey the impact of the work accomplished by teams at the hackathons
  • Support ongoing post-event communications with hackathon attendees and mentors to track team progress, assist with further GPU porting and inform readers of mentor opportunities
  • Deliver feedback to tool providers and other partners in the form of lessons learned that would facilitate adoption and use of GPUs
  • Work closely with partners and sponsors to track resource requirements, schedules and budgets.

What we need to see:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Computer Engineering
  • 8+ years work experience as a project, community, account manager or related work experience
  • Capability to think strategically, while jumping directly into day-to-day event and account management
  • Ability to thrive in a highly dynamic environment and to lead change through multi-functional teamwork
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the goals of a variety of partners, and distill that feedback into an action plan that addresses core needs
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • PhD is preferred
  • Experience in HPC/computational science
  • Experience in facilitating group training events
  • Passion for data management
