The Database Administrator (DBA) is a key member of the Software as a Service (SaaS) team responsible for installing, configuring, monitoring and maintaining a high performance, highly available, secure database environment of the Mediware Human and Social Services (MHSS) infrastructure. The Database administrator (DBA) is responsible for providing technical support for the database environment including and overseeing the administration and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and providing Information Technology with a long-term perspective on the relationship of database technology to the business opportunities facing the company. The DBA will partner with architecture, application development and operations to help achieve a state-of-the-art environment that meets current and future business objectives.
Principal Functions of the Job
The Database Administrator coordinates all aspects of database administration services in support customer-facing services and business operations. This includes all database installation, tuning and maintenance activities; database backup and recovery planning and execution; supporting the health and performance of associated business applications; change management. Ensure availability and performance of production databases that support hosted SaaS applications and business operations (e.g. system monitoring, performance tuning, routine maintenance tasks, etc.).
Create and perform database and system maintenance policy and procedures.
Perform and document disaster recovery functions.
Work with development team to coordinate new data development ensuring consistency and integration.
Monitor the database systems and jobs to ensure minimum downtime.
Troubleshoot SQL database performance issues.
Work with Database Analyst to optimize all database objects, stored procedures, tables, views, triggers, indexes, user-defined functions and SSIS packages.
Knowledge of Policy Management, Resource Governor and dynamic management views.
Part of an on-call rotation to respond to and hosting operations issues to ensure production applications are online.
Required Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field; OR a minimum of 4 Years DBA experience in lieu of the degree.
Minimum 3 years work experiencerequired in a Microsoft SQL Server DBA role.
3 years IT operations experience with strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
Understanding of, and experience with, server-client computing and relational database environments.
Familiarity with database design, MS SQL high availability architecture, MS Clustering.
Experience analyzing query performance, tuning and optimizing as necessary.
Excellent troubleshooting, listening and problem-solving skills.
Able to work in a fast-paced deadline-oriented environment.
Works well in a team environment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and assistance.
