Health insurance companies, group health insurance purchasers, government agencies, and healthcare providers—all Milliman clients—face an unprecedented level of change. Healthcare reform is bringing major changes in the way that health insurance products are designed, sold, and administered. In addition, new organizations such as Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) are taking on financialrisk and new roles in these emerging models of healthcare delivery and financing.

A consultant plays many roles. We work side-by-side with clients, drawing on our experience, expertise, skills, tools, and data to help clients solve business challenges. The most successful consultants score high for their inquisitiveness, ability to quickly synthesize information, capacity for innovation, projection of confidence, and intuitiveness.
Typically, our projects involve small teams of two to four experienced consultants engaged by a client to evaluate a situation in order to make recommendations about how the client can solve a particular challenge or seize an opportunity. Examples of current projects include:

Viable candidates will have knowledge of, and direct experience with, health insurance operations, healthcare analytics, clinical programs (care management and utilization management) and/or healthcare financing. Candidates must have strong writing, quantitative, and presentation skills. Willingness and availability to travel to client locations throughout the United States and abroad is required. Milliman is an analytically-based firm and we prefer candidates with experience with and an interest in healthcare data analytics.
Candidates should have extensive experience in care management, financial and operations management and/or consulting on projects with that emphasis.
Milliman consulting requires candidates to proactively communicate with and support clients, take on multiple projects and deliver responsive and high quality results. Candidates should have experience leading significant projects.
Education and Experience
Candidates with Masters of Business Administration or Masters of Healthcare Administration will receive preference for mid-level and senior consultant positions. Other credentials (e.g., IT certifications, CPA, MPH, JD, etc.) will be considered in the context of work experience/expertise.
Clinical consultant positions require clinical credentials (e.g., BSN, RN, NP, MD, etc.) and experience working in a managed care or hospital/ large clinic setting that is operating under shared financialrisk or value-based reimbursement.
Additional preferred skills include: healthcare consulting experience and involvement with data and analysis.
Bachelors or better.
Masters or better in Business Administration or related field.
