Versum Materials, a part of the Performance Materials business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, is a best-in-class electronic materials company providing high-purity chemicals and gases, delivery systems, services and materials expertise to meet the evolving needs of the global semiconductor, display and LED markets.
The Semi Marketing & Strategy (SMS) team drives the Semiconductor market and portfolio strategy in close cooperation with the Business Fields (BFs) and other stakeholders. The strategy is built by combining internal knowledge and tools with external market intelligence and is executed through the Project Management Office and Commercial development teams.
SMS is looking for a new Head of Strategic Marketing, responsible for working closely together with the BFs, R&D, the PM CTO and Strategy and Transformation offices to define the Semi (portfolio) strategy. Front and center to this portfolio strategy is a thorough understanding of our customer’s technology roadmaps and industry trends – not only from a technical but also from a commercial perspective. To be successful, Merck needs to deliver the right products to our customers to support their roadmaps, while at the same time creating highest possible value for Merck. Understanding the economics of our customer’s business models and the role that our materials play in that is crucial to finding win-wins for our customers and for Merck.
• Be the voice of the customer within the Semi BU
o understand and communicate customer technology roadmaps and industry trends
o understand and communicate the business models of our customers and the role and value our materials bring
• Partner with the BFs and R&D
o Portfolio: shape our product roadmap to align with customer roadmaps and trends
o Strategy: support and drive development of market segment plans, BF business plans and Semi BU strategic marketing plan
o Ongoing support: support the BFs with customer negotiations, substantiate value propositions, (value based) pricing consistency, monthly-and-quarterly reporting
• Manage the annual SD cycle
o Partner with CTO and Strategy and Transformation offices to include the Semi strategic plan into the overall PM strategic plan in the annual SD cycle
• Education – the ideal candidate combines a technology/engineering degree with a business/commercial degree (MBA)
• Experience – the ideal candidate has 5-10 years of Semi Industry experience, preferably in marketing or technical roles
• Location can be flexible - Allentown, PA or Branchburg, NJ areas preferred
