Position Description:

  • Accountability for line management of the Evidence Operations team.
  • Accountability for staff development, evaluation, hiring and alignment of personnel to support OBU projects and operations.
  • Accountability to secure a consistent and standardized operating model for Medical Evidence project delivery worldwide, working with internal stakeholders and External Service Providers (ESP/CROs).
  • Accountability for selection of External Service Providers to deliver the OBU medical evidence portfolio productively and reliably.
  • Accountability for the coordination of operations across the franchise Delivery Directors in line with franchise project priorities to meet agreed time, costs and inspection ready quality standards.


  • Accountable for the development of systems and metrics to effectively assess the level of process and project performance, and for continuous improvement of key performance indicators e.g. reliability, quality, cycle times.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations governing the conduct of clinical research, observational research and early access.
  • Accountable for liaison with BBU Operations teams to secure all processes, systems and metrics needs of the OBU medical delivery organization are met
  • Accountable for capacity management and resource availability to secure project delivery needs
  • Responsibility for the consistent achievement of the operating and study financial objectives in liaison with the DD team.
  • Responsible to optimize the execution of contracts and projects to ensure a business focused, efficient process with a view of introducing new standards for execution to secure a consistent operating model across the projects and
  • Leads or oversees a diverse range of initiatives to ensure continuous operational capabilities improvement
  • Leads the development, with a team, of new methodologies or processes to provide business benefits and evaluate time and cost implications
  • Keeps own knowledge and other's knowledge of best practices and relevant operational developments opportunities up to date
  • Ensures implementation of Project Management systems and capabilities, and risk management plans
  • Accountability for line management of the Operations team to:
  • Promote and encourage communication within and across teams
  • Recruit, retain and develop personnel through skills development and creation of opportunities for related staff
  • Provide performance management, performance assessment and reward proposals for direct reports
  • Ensure policy administration and implementation within the organization
  • Maintain an environment that attracts, develops and retains highly qualified employees
  • Ensure that SHE standards are adhered to for direct reports including appropriate work-life balance.
  • Carries out effective succession planning

Minimum Requirements –Education and Experience

  • University degree in medicine or life-science; additional formal education in business or management desirable.
  • Extensive pharmaceutical industry/CRO experience including management of staff and clinical trial programs in all phases across multiple countries and regions.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful delivery of global projects within the Oncology therapeutic area
  • Demonstrated track record in delivering a new capability or driving a change effort.
  • Proven ability to interact widely and effectively within the company at senior levels across regions, cultures and functions.
  • Ability to interact externally with key customers.
  • Persuasive communicator in English with a proven ability to work collaboratively in a multi-cultural environment
  • Experience, leading, promoting, motivating and empowering others to accomplish individual, team and organisational objectives
  • Effective project and budget management experience
  • Ability to influence strategically and persuade tactfully, to obtain desired outcomes while maintaining effective, positive organisational relationships
