Hardware Engineering Technician

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a motivated, results oriented and detailed professional for our Hardware EngineeringTechnician position. If you are looking for an opportunity to work in a technical customer relations environment where you will be troubleshooting down to a component level and working with a variety of products in an ever-changing manufacturing facility, then this position is for you!

Hardware Engineering Technician


  • Test, repair, convert, and troubleshoot problems of moderate complexity to the component level on SEL products.
  • Provide product technical support to SEL staff and customers.
  • Provide support to engineering staff and management as needed.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge in SEL processes and products in order to ensure product quality and integrity.
  • Continuously identify, measure, follow, and improve SEL service related processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • 2 year electronic engineeringtechnologydegree or equivalent
  • Minimum 2-5 years experience providing technical service and/or engineering support in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Intermediate working knowledge of analog and digital electronics and basic microprocessor knowledge
  • Good technical writing and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical, judgment, and organization skills
  • Willing to travel up to 10%
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading process improvement or analysis teams
  • Electronic troubleshootingexperience
  • Technical training and presentation skills
  • Practical knowledge of power systems
