Job Description Summary


The Head of Enterprise Risk Management is responsible to build a best-in-class second line of defense (2LOD) Enterprise Risk Management function for the Bank of the West. Working in collaboration with Regulatory Compliance, Corporate Risk, Support Functions and client-facing businesses, the Head of Enterprise Risk Management will lead the bank in designing and implementing the Enterprise Risk Management Strategy, Roadmap and Priorities for 2019 and beyond – Enterprise Risk 2.0.


Specifically, the Head of Enterprise Risk Management will design, build and oversee common methods and approaches to manage risk across all first and second line organizations including enterprise risk appetite, enterprise risk policies and standards, common best practices, methodologies, and tools across Bank of the West. This leader will have direct responsibility to drive transformational changes to achieve efficiencies, improve effectiveness and overall control across the Bank. Illustrative common practices include issues management, self-identified issues, risk acceptance, control plans, testing reliance, business process risk management and more.


The Enterprise Risk Management program will be the great unifier across non-financial risk types through establishing common approaches, methods, standards and tools. This Leader will manage the program building from accomplishments achieved to date and drive alignment and understanding across a multitude of stakeholders. Furthermore, this Leader will build a business process risk management approach to achieve efficiencies and cross-discipline reliance. By assessing the business processes, identifying and assessing the controls and underlying risks, and the forms of monitoring through Key Risk Indicators, testing and more, we can align second line programs to increase efficiency, effectiveness, transparency and control.


Essential Job Functions

  • Directs and is responsible for the full range of the BOW Enterprise Risk Management function. Ensures the ERM Program is robust based on BNPP Group, US banking industry practices and European and US regulatory expectations with a resulting program that works effectively to report on the Bank's risk posture and reins in excessive risks/risky activities.
  • Formulates, in conjunction with senior management, the Internal Control Committee, and the Enterprise Risk Committee, the Bank's Enterprise Risk Appetite Program to recommends appropriate quantitative and/or qualitative components for the Bank's Enterprise Risk Appetite. Drive alignment across the enterprise.
  • Builds a Business Process Risk Management approach to implementing assessments, controls, and monitoring across the enterprise.
  • Oversees the establishment of various monitoring routines, tools and templates, risk management standards and procedures; developing risk management analysis reports
  • Establish risk management metrics/scorecards and dashboards to track performance and monitor/identify trends across the Bank

Other Job Duties

  • Partners across the enterprise with Compliance, BSA/AML, the Chief Data Officer, the Information and Communication Technology Team (ICT), other non-financial second line functions, the business units and other control functions, and any other entities within the BNP Paribas group, including the International Retail Bank and BNPP USA Inc. (the Intermediate Holding Company (IHC)) to ensure the program alignment with minimum duplication and no material gaps in risk management
  • May serve on one or more internal Risk Management committees with other members of senior management.
  • Responsible for the ongoing professional development of team members within Enterprise Risk Management
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Experience

  • • 15 years of experience in Financial Institutions or Banking Industry
  • • A background in three or more second line Risk & Compliance functions including Operational Risk, Regulatory Compliance, Financial Security (BSA/AML/OFAC/Anti-Bribery & Corruption), Privacy, Data, Technology, Information Security
  • • Background in Six Sigma, Lean, Business Process Reengineering, Business Process Management


Education

  • Bachelor's Degree
