The purpose of this job description is to describe the authority, responsibilities, and duties of the integrated media director – digital activation in the media planning division.


The integrated media director – digital activation is selected and placed into the position by evp, chief integrated media officer. This position works under general direction, providing overview of end result; work is completed unsupervised. Incumbent uses independent judgment and discretion to accomplish tasks. Plans/schedules/arranges own activities. Has considerable latitude of discretion and judgment within scope of position. Develops solutions to complex problems.

Overall objective

The integrated media director – digital activation is responsible for directing, planning and implementing interactive media campaigns. Manage the 15-person digital activation team and provide the guidance, support and leadership to empower team success.


Direct, plan and implement interactive media campaigns including:

Cpm, cpc, cpl and numerous retargeting media placements

Search engine marketing – seo and sem initiatives

Social media – planning of paid social media

Rich media and online video placements

Direct, plan, and implement emerging interactive media campaigns including:

Instant text messaging

Content sponsorships

Mobile and text marketing

Programmatic online buying – display, video and mobile using agency preferred vendor platforms (tube mogul, torrential), as well as others

Viral and blog marketing

Buzz marketing/reporting/coordination

Crm and prospecting initiatives

Direct the entire interactive digital team so that they have the knowledge, resources and expertise to create result-driven digital media plans

Work as part of the integrated media planning group, applying interactive media solutions to overall client objectives

Develop, present, implement and optimize interactive media plans and strategies

Plan interactive strategy in tandem with traditional media planning teams

Work with media planning, account service, social media, creative teams and analytics teams to determine what specific needs are for interactive advertising

Utilize available interactive media planning tools (I.E., comscore, emarketer and other industry research, client's historical media activity reports) to develop interactive media plans

Optimize the campaign with media vendors ongoing

Work together with creative teams to ensure creative specifications of negotiated plan are satisfied

Present media plans directly to clients who may, or may not, have expertise in interactive media

Develop povs as needed in response to client and planning team requests

Actively provide relevant information about trends in interactive media to planning group, agency stakeholders and clients

Negotiate with interactive and media and purl's vendors and provide a final negotiated recommendation to the client

Monitor media campaigns via third-party ad serving software, having daily, weekly and/or monthly campaign performance meetings internally and reporting results to client

Prepare and present interactive media information to selected publics, as necessary (industry groups)

Develop "media alerts" and documents for zadv.Com and regular client mailings

Supervise and train associate media director, supervisors, and junior level staff

Required skills


6+ years of total media planning experience and/or digital media planning experience

1+ years of traditional planning experience is a plus

Bachelor's degree in related field and/or equivalent work experience

Demonstrated presentation and writing skills

Third-party ad serving, tracking and reporting expertise (e.G. Double-click)

Experience negotiating with and managing independent vendors

Proficient with comscore or similar product, ms office (internet explorer, excel, word and powerpoint)

Full service agency experience preferred, but not required
