Kforce has a client that is seeking a Grants Accountant in the New York, NY area. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Perform grant-related post-award functions for a diverse portfolio of federal, state, and city contracts and private grants, including budget and expense analysis, timely preparation and submission of financialreports/invoices, labor and cost allocations, reconciliations, budget modifications, file maintenance, and closeout functions
  • Review and process sub recipient's reimbursement requests
  • Conduct site visits, on-site audits, and desk audits of federal grants sub recipients, assessing systems and processes for compliance with federal regulations and sub recipient agreements
  • Prepare audit and site visit reports, recommend corrective action, and follow up to ensure corrective actions have been implemented
  • Assist CFO in preparation of annual organizational budget
  • Prepare monthly organizational budget to actuals reports
  • Work closely with Development Department to prepare budgets for grants proposals and expenditures reports
  • Prepare and post adjusting journal entries as needed
  • Maintain accounts and records in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and organization's policies, procedures, and contracts
  • On-going update of actual and projected cash receipts into organization's cash flow
  • Prepare various auditschedules and assist in any other annual or government audit requirements
  • Distribute petty cash and metro cards as required over the course of the day
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned


  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsibleexperience in a non-profit organization specifically in the areas of general accounting, compliance, and grant accounting
  • Working knowledge of general accounting principles, including reporting requirements and procedures related to federal grants and OMB Circulars A-122 and A-133
  • Experience managing compliance with federal government grants and contracts in accordance with CFRs
  • Proficient knowledge of Fund E-Z and Microsoft Office suite especially Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to exhibit attention to detail, maintain confidentiality, deadline-oriented
  • Must possess excellent critical thinking; take initiative, thoroughness, research skills, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Passion for poverty alleviation and economic justice
  • Well-organized and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
