Description

The Global SBU EHS Director, Industrial and Packaging Coatings, will lead the organizations to proactively address EHS related issues. Working closely with the Business Leadership Teams and Corporate and Regional EHS, define the business unit EHS strategy and ensure business unit needs are incorporated into corporate processes. The incumbent will drive alignment with PPG’s EHS Management System and develop strategies to close identified gaps and drive continuous improvement. He/she functions as the Health, Safety & Environmental advisor to the Industrial & Packaging Coatings Leadership Teams with overall responsibility for the management of EHS regulatory compliance and management of the Environment, Health & Safety programs. Additional key accountabilities include representing the company to the regulatory, community, or special interest groups, developing and negotiating solutions to problems to prevent interruption of business operations, leading the EHS integration of acquisitions and prioritizing EHS investments within the businesses. The incumbent will have functional supervision of the EHS staff in the USCA region.

Within the first 12-18 months, the Global SBU EHS Director, Industrial and Packaging Coatings, will:

1) PPG EHS Management System:

a. Assess implementation of the PPG EHS Management System across locations.

b. Develop strategies to close identified gaps, including acquisitions.

c. Work with the Leadership Team and site EHS Staff to implement gap closure and improvement strategies.

2) EHS Team:

a. Develop and engage the EHS team.

b. Lead the Industrial & Packaging Coatings Leadership Team to drive improvements in effectiveness and efficiency.

3) Simply, Standardize, and Share:

a. Identify opportunities to simplify and standardize implementation of the EHS Management System across all Industrial & Packaging Coatings locations and field labs.

b. Work with the Industrial & Packaging Coatings Leadership Team and SBU counterparts to drive simplification and standardization across the Industrial & Packaging Coatings locations.

c. Drive sharing of resources across all PPG sites to improve efficiency.

First year success will be evaluated on how s/he has been able to drive the successful implementation of the PPG EHS Management System, develop and motivate the EHS team, and achievement of simplified, standardized, and shared resources to improve effective and efficient implementation of the PPG EHS Management System.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in EHS or related discipline
  • 10+ years of varied, in-depth cross-business experience, preferably in multiple disciplines including EHS, technical, operational and business with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Chemical Industry experience is strongly desired.
  • Strong track record of performance with demonstrated achievements in reducing EHS risks at progressively increasing levels from manufacturing facilities to regional oversight.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to influence decisions through mutual respect, cooperation, and effective communications to maximize value to the business.
  • Possess strong leadership skills to effectively drive innovation and change within the EHS organization.
  • Must be able to use judgment, international health, safety & environmental knowledge and experience to develop and make decisions at the executive level.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in technical and regulatory language and terminology associated with health, safety & environmental issues.
  • Must be able to perform and understand complex mathematical operations and formulas for budgetary and technical function requirements.
  • Must be able to effectively manage projects
  • Strong communication skills at all levels of the organization
  • Proficient in MS Office, as well as experience with specialized EHS software.
