Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope:

As the GM DMET Section Supervisor, you will lead a team of up to 8 Technicians and serve as the key point of contact for the GM DMET team as it relates to safety, quality, and productivity.

Purpose of Position:

Working alongside the SMET Section Supervisor, establish organizational design and staffing capabilities to develop high performing teams to maximize capability and equipment uptime.

Direct responsibility for the improvement of equipment reliability. Direct and indirect responsibility for receivership of new technology and delivery into 24/7 manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a safety culture that seeks injury elimination through proactive solution deployment
  • Proactively monitor, maintain, and effectively escalate troubleshooting needs for process equipment to maximize product quality, equipment uptime, and plant throughput.
  • Champion Troubleshooting & Repair and PM effectiveness through partnerships with the SMET, Reliability and Engineering communities to increase troubleshooting efficiency improving equipment availability and performance
  • Ensure the team logs all troubleshooting and repair activities into the Plant CMMS system and manage escalation of issues to additional technical groups
  • Identify key downtime drivers and implement or collaborate with other supervisors on projects to reduce event occurrence and duration
  • Collaborate with other supervisors to allocate resources for identifying, investigating and mitigating key selects drivers
  • Coordinate training and certification of new personnel and re-training, cross-training, and certification of existing personnel. Identify additional training needs and collaborate between supervisors to develop training to meet department standards for mechanical, and electrical technicians.
  • Actively participate in new technology receivership, ensuring processes and equipment meet standards for 24/7 manufacturing
  • Monitor Repair & Maintenance spending levels for the GM Production Community and lead project efforts to maximize cost reduction
  • Identify and communicate performance opportunities, objective shortfalls, and resource requirements.
  • Submit monthly reports that accurately summarize performance.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • 40+ hours per week, Monday-Friday Day Shift, including shift handoff presence on some frequency. Schedule can vary as a function of business needs. Off hours support required based on rotating schedule


REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • BS or MS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering preferred)
  • 5+ years' experience in Manufacturing Operations or Engineering.
  • 2+ years' experience in a leadership position


DESIRED SKILLS:
  • Strong engineering and problem-solving skills, CMMS system and TPM experience.
  • Directive and autonomous with ability to make decisions and prioritize work under time pressure.
  • Proven track record of solving problems as an individual contributor and team leader.
  • The ability to initiate, champion, and implement improvements in performance through training, documentation, and safety.
  • Works well within a multi-disciplined team and independently with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to coach and develop leaders and individual contributors.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to multiple levels of the organization
  • Six Sigma certified.

The range for this position is $98,662.00 - $135,660.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
