A GIS Specialist, under limited supervision, is responsible for independently utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies to create, edit, analyze, and manage spatial data, perform raster and vector based analysis for reporting and decision making. This position will develop, maintain and updateComputer Aided Design (CAD) data to integrate into GIS workflows and datasets, transferring spatial and non-spatial data from aerial imagery, county land base maps and other source documents in accordance with all Company policies and accepted standards.
Performs and is responsible for the creation, modification, and quality control of essential geospatial infrastructure data for company wide use in a variety of critical applications, including the analysis and assembly of geospatial data.
Prepares site and grading plans, cut/fill cross-sections, process flow diagrams, piping & instrumentation diagrams, and civil/mechanical design details using AutoCAD and Civil 3D (not mandatory but considered a plus).
Prepares elevation and contaminant concentration contour maps, geological cross-sections, 2D/3D visualization and conceptual site model depictions.
Creates informative and accurate maps, utilizing a variety of GIS software tools to perform topology corrections and make geometric modification as part of the data quality review and acceptance process.
Works within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments, and complete work assignments in accordance with LU management systems, format and QA/QC processes and quality standards.
Ability to handle multiple project assignments with different internal departments and offices, external agencies and utility commissions, contractors/consultants and maintaining flexibility, while meeting strict deadlines.
Provides high-quality technical support for drafting, graphics, data visualization, GIS, ArcMap and AutoCAD needs on projects and proposals, while successfully organizing and prioritizing multiple deadline-driven tasks.
Demonstrated ability to provide instruction/on-the-job training to assigned employees.
Undergraduate degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Planning, Engineering or related discipline.
Equivalent professional experience using GIS, CAD, and/or automated mapping software in the production of maps and spatial analysis, OR five or more years progressively responsible professional experience in natural gas industry/engineering.
Requires the ability to perform algebraic, trigonometric and geometric operations and/or moderately complex statistical and/or accounting methods.
Requires advanced knowledge of various software applications to create complex documents, reports and graphics.
Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers in order to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or information on technical concepts to individuals with experience or knowledge of the technical area.
Requires occasionally performing activities including, but not limited to, bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning and/or lifting.
