The major focus and responsibilities of this position include:
Contributing to projects as team member and/or team leader, developing business relationships, communicating with the client(s)
Developing and implementing geotechnical field investigations and laboratory testing programs
Assisting with and/ or carrying out various data analysis
Assisting with various field activities, including assessment and analysis of geotechnical conditions and leading geotechnical investigations
Working with or supervising field technicians and (earthwork and drilling) subcontractors
Developing technical skills and sharing these skills with other members of the project team
Developing project management skills appropriate to your level and background
Compilation of data, interpreting laboratory results, analyzing soil-foundation interaction, and technical report writing
Completing other tasks as assigned by project managers
Undertaking assignments that may involve travel and periods of time away from home office
Passenger vehicle driving will be required for some services
It is preferred that qualified candidates have a master’s degree from an ABET accredited university in geotechnical or civil engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering. It is required that qualified candidates have, at minimum, an undergraduate degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited university. A minimum of 3 years post-graduate degree geotechnical engineering experience is required if you hold a masters degree. A minimum of 5 years post-bachelors geotechnical engineering experience is required if you hold an undergraduate degree.
At this time, at least 6 months of field experience conducting geotechnical site investigations with subsurface soil exploration methods is required. Soil geotechnical experience and career interest is required. Applicable training or experience in cold regions and/or permafrost regions is preferred. Experience with soil and/or rock specimen laboratory testing programs for index and strength properties is desired.
Professional engineer registration is required. Successful candidates must demonstrate ability to obtain Alaska Professional Engineer registration within 12 months of hire date.
