The Science Division of the Technical Services Support Contract (TSSC) at the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science Center (EROS) near Sioux Falls, SD is recruiting a Geospatial Software Developer to support the Earth Observing System (EOS) Science Integration project. The project is affiliated with NASA's Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC).

The ideal candidate will be a creative problem-solver who can respond to evolving development needs in an applied research setting. Position duties will be directly related to developing solutions for improving the accessibility and usability of remote sensing data. The Geospatial Software Developer will work both independently and within a team to advance the Land Change Science mission at EROS.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science, or Geoinformatics

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a professional setting. Candidate must be able to demonstrate examples of work should an interview be granted.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with:
  • Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) services (WMS, WFS, WMTS, WCS)
  • ArcGIS Server and image services
  • Representational State Transfer (REST) services
  • Skill with scripting languages such as Python and R
  • Skill with HTTP client- and server-side scripting
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with Open-source Project for a Network Data Access Protocol (OPeNDAP)
  • Familiarity with relational databases, such as Postgres, as well as with NoSQL data storage (e.g., MongoDB)
  • Familiarity with Git
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies
