As a General Superintendent, you will schedule, coordinate and supervise activities of workers (laborers, operators, carpenters, finishers, etc.) engaged on designated project; typically oversee multiple projects and supervises multiple superintendents.


  • Promote and enforce compliance with project safety program requirements; document and ensure corrective measures are implemented
  • Mentor and coach superintendents as it relates to company policies and procedures and work requirements
  • Actively participate in safety meetings
  • Provide positive safety leadership to the project
  • Review field operation and ensure that the project provides a safe workplace
  • Supervise superintendents assigned to area of responsibility and provide liaison between field engineering, estimating, and crafts to ensure compliance of construction with drawings and specifications
  • Participate in bid review to determine schedule, estimated job cost, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and available resources to various phases of project
  • Participate in project presentations to elected officials, general public and other stake holders
  • Coordinate with project staff to outline workplan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority
  • Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget
  • Review status and modify schedules or plans as required. Prepares project reports for management, owners, and subcontractors as needed
  • Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems
  • Coordinate project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies
  • Work closely with Company employees, project supervisors, owners, external teams and support people to get commitments regarding PM's managerial and supervisory requests
  • Manage subcontractor, owner and public relations
  • Set productive, consistent, and acceptable work example
  • Coordinate material purchases, assure that subcontractor agreements are prepared and change orders are accurate and issued to owners, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Resolve construction problems (lack of productivity, work interfaces, etc.) as required
  • Knowledge and understanding of local union or prevailing wage rules
  • Ensures workers for each task are fully qualified to perform assigned duties
  • Coordinate sub-contractors onsite
  • Maintains knowledge of Flatiron’s company values and strategic plan
  • Support published corporate policies
  • Perform additional assignments per management’s direction


  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 9years of construction field experience and/or training
  • Or 12years of heavy highway or civil construction related experience and/or training
  • Management experience of medium sized teams required
  • Expert knowledge of tool & equipment safety
