The General Counsel (GC) of Olathe Health System provides strategic leadership, management, and overall guidance/advice in all legal services areas affecting the System and its affiliated corporations in matters of general corporate law, acquisitions, joint ventures, contracts, antitrust, managed care, patient care, litigation matters, real estate and regulatory law. The GC provides education, training, and legal advice to staff and the Board of Directors, and serves as the Secretary of the Board.

Supervises: Paralegal, Contract Administrator and other roles as identified
JD degree from an ABA-accredited institution; current license and Bar affiliation
7+ years of experience in healthcare law in a law firm or as in-house counsel for a health system; direct experience in physician employment matters.
Experience in drafting contracts, briefs, opinions, and negotiations.
Experience in complex legal research and to provide competent legal advice to management and Board of Directors.
Knowledge of federal and state laws including, Stark, Anti-Kickback, IRS and HIPAA regulations, etc.
Advanced knowledge of contract law, especially contracts related to healthcare services.
Analytical, organizational, and computer skills: Meticulous attention to detail; well organized; ability to multi-task and prioritize; adept in Microsoft suite of products and other relevant systems/tools.
Verbal communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Leadership experience; Executive presence: Strong leadership and management skills; demonstrated leadership/ executive presence.
Interpersonal; customer service orientation: Responsiveness/sense of urgency; initiative/self-starting; team player; work well in a high energy, fast-paced environment; effectively manage confidential matters with discretion and sound judgment; ability to interact with all levels in and outside the organization.
Excellent negotiating skills.
Ability to proactively identify potential legal risks and propose resolutions; business orientation (offering input beyond “legal opinions”).
Member of Kansas State Bar and licensed to practice in Kansas
