POSITION SUMMARY

The Food Science manager or Director is responsible for leading the Food Science promotion of HPP technology to drive growth and adoption of HPP and Avure. This individual will represent Avure at conferences, tradeshows, and industry events and other customer related functions as well as lead the day to day activities of the Erlanger Customer Center.

These activities include working with new clients and existing customers in formulation and adjustment of new and existing products suitable for HPP. This person will have a working knowledge of the effects on the functionality and interaction of macro and micro food components to food processing technologies. The ability to multi-task is paramount.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the day to day activities of the Food Science Center including scheduling, budgets, proposals and people management.
  • Hosting current and prospective customers in the Customer Center including presentations, discussions and participation in related activities.
  • Facilitate knowledge capture and training of all related science and development activities in the Customer Center.
  • Insure timely response to inquiries and issues with customers and the sales group.
  • Develop required materials to support marketing activities including application briefs, videos, webinars, presentations, white papers and seminars.
  • Provide sales support with customers to promote the benefits of the Avure Customer Center, Avure Science and Avure machinery solutions.
  • Become one of the faces of Avure, recognized as an industry leader, resource and confidant.
  • Perform any required duties and responsibilities as defined in the Sr. Food Technologist role.
  • Position requires at least 30% of time traveling to customer sites, conferences, trade shows, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Phd or MS Food Technology with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience
  • Leadership experience is desirable
  • Understanding of food science and Microbiology interaction as required for HPP applications
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, task oriented customer support environment.
  • Strong formulation capability – lab & pilot plant. Experience in technology development including scale-up to pilot /commercial scale.
  • Ability to mentor, hire, coach & terminate associates as necessary
  • Ability to link Food lab and market developments to the commercial success pathways for JBT Avure
  • Ability to understand and integrate complementary technologies to HPP
  • Ability to work with partners on packaging materials to meet requirements for HPP and emerging regulatory and consumer requirements (environmental and customer preference)
  • Ability to communicate effectively to customers and co-workers
  • Ability to give effective public presentations
  • A sound background in HACCP principles and cGMP's
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must have a sound understanding of the basic principles of food chemistry and product development in foods and beverages.
  • Experience in HPP technology is helpful but not required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information in professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and correspond effectively with regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to effectively present information both in written correspondence and public presentations and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions on theoretical and actual situations.
  • Ability to publish in peer reviewed journals and work with the FDA and others regulatory bodies to advocate for HPP
  • Sound experience is essential in understanding and ability to quantitate the interactions of food components subjected to HPP and other food processing technologies.
  • Ability to develop and modify food and beverage formulations based on sound scientific principles and communicate the information effectively to customers of HPP technology.
