Job Summary


Independently perform diverse financial analysis for a school/unit and assist department management with their financial planning efforts, budget analysis and monthly reporting.

Duties & Responsibilities


As a member of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health's Office of Financial Services team, and reporting to the Associate Director for Budget and Planning, this position will join a team of analysts in the Office of Financial Strategy and Planning (OFSP) group in their capacity to respond to ad hoc reporting and analytical needs and requests from School leadership, University offices, or specific School academic or administrative departments. The Financial Reporting Analyst will also serve as a key contributor to and coordinator of financial reporting, both preparing and aggregating from others a standard monthly reporting package for the Dean and senior leadership. Many of these reports will be newly-created by the Financial Reporting Analyst.


Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide analytical and quantitative analysis to support critical decisions
  • Support senior leadership by creating a new series of financial reports that will be provided on a regular basis
  • Identify, gather, and/or develop needed data
  • Assist in determining methods and procedures for analytics
  • Collaborate to build and maintain models related to revenue, budgeting and forecasting
  • Document assumptions and findings
  • Maintain accountability for monthly management reporting and analysis
  • Perform additional ad hoc financial analysis as needed
  • Participate in annual development of School operating budget
  • Contribute to the overall goals of OFSP as appropriate
  • Serve as resource to School-wide departments as necessary
  • Other related duties as assigned

Typical Core Duties


  • Conduct complex financial analysis and update financial models and projections
  • Analyze and project budgets and financial activity for multiple programs
  • Provide technical advice and problem resolution for a school/unit financial community
  • Enhance, produce and distribute unit-specific planning materials; develop and produce materials to facilitate annual budget planning and financial monitoring of budget-to-actuals at the local level
  • May consolidate local budgets to facilitate the upload process
  • Review financial data and explore options for report development within University financial applications
  • Ensure financial compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations



Basic Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience



Additional Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration or accounting preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel strongly preferred, knowledge of PowerPoint preferred, experience with Macros a plus
  • Experience with Essbase/SmartView and Oracle Financials preferred
  • Self-organized, flexible, and experience managing multiple challenging projects simultaneously preferred
  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills preferred
  • Strong understanding of financial tools and working with large amounts of complex data from multiple sources preferred
  • Collaborative working style with excellent interpersonal skills preferred
  • Experience delivering quality output for Senior Leadership within a fast-paced and fluid environment preferred
