US Financial Planning & Analytics Consultant

Job Summary

Performs financial data analysis including, but not limited to, financial modeling, financial statement analysis and statistical analysis in support of U.S. Operations; performs analysis supporting development and assessment of projects and initiatives including cost benefit analyses; conducts benefit realization analysis for projects and initiatives to assess the performance of projects and initiatives in comparison to plan

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Manages the integration of strategic initiatives with business/functional/budget strategies; collaborates with all levels of management to help identify variances in strategic objectives; builds forecasts and financial estimates; provides guidance to the division to affect change

Monitors developments within U.S. Operations; analyzes macro-economic trends and metrics and provides insights to drive decision making; assists senior team members in assessing and evaluating emerging issues; works with division management to provide and gather relevant information for the financial planning process; prepares financial forecasts and cost proposals; works with division representatives to resolve financial issues

Develops long-range financial plans based on key assumption information provided by other divisions; provides information to executive management covering various scenarios to ensure adequate information is available for strategic decisions

Assists with special financial and business related studies and cooperates with other departments in preparing analyses; establishes and maintains formal relationships to assist in identifying and implementing best practices, knowledge resources, and industry standards (both within and outside the company); drives the initiation, development, planning, and implementation of strategic studies; communicates key strategies and competitive insights; establishes opportunities for additional activities

Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, management information systems, accounting, finance, or a related field, and eight years of professional job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Background and experience in actuarial work is required

Strong educational background and/or experience in financial modeling, financial statement analysis, and statistical analysis is required

Master’s Degree in finance or a quantitative field is preferred

Insurance industry experience is preferred

Knowledge and understanding of the operations of the business

Demonstrated creativity in problem solving skills to enable sound decision making

Excellent verbal and written communication and relationship building skills

Ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of internal stakeholders

Focuses on enhancing the organization’s ability to sustain and enhance its strategic position

Knowledge and demonstrated experience performing complex financial analyses and related valuation methodologies, systems and quantitative business-based analyses, and creating metrics

Ability to prepare statistical studies and trend analyses using internal and external information to demonstrate relevant changes and recommend improvements or solutions

Solid knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire the necessary knowledge, of Aflac’s sales structure, territories, products and markets

Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and other financial related federal regulations, state insurance department statutes, and state regulations

Well-developed presentation techniques

Demonstrated project/program management capabilities enabling an effective leadership role for large-scale strategic initiatives

Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
