Are you an experienced Financial Controller with a CPA designation who loves story telling as much as you love numbers? If so, we are looking for someone like you to join our team.

Reporting directly to the Vice-President of Finance, the Financial Controller will be responsible for three US agencies within the AVENIR Global network, including Padilla, SHIFT and AXON US. Your primary role will be to ensure the numbers are accurate and help key stakeholders understand the story the numbers tell. Overseeing a team, you will be responsible for all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation and development of internal control policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Manage and review client and vendor contracts
  • Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions
  • Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Oversee the accounting operations of the US agencies, especially their control systems, billing and collection process, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures
  • Hire, train and retain skilled finance staff
  • Manage all accounting operations including Billing, AR, AP, GL and Revenue Recognition

Transactions

  • Ensures time is recorded and billed in a timely fashion
  • Ensures invoices are sent to clients in an expedite manner
  • Ensures that accounts receivable is collected promptly
  • Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
  • Verify payrolls are processed in a timely manner
  • Verify and processes employee benefits payments
  • Ensure that bank reconciliations are completed
  • Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
  • Approve of purchases and expenses per company policy
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions

Reporting

  • Coordinate and prepare timely and complete financial statements
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  • Assist with the production of the annual budget and forecasts
  • Calculate variances from budget/prior periods and explain significant issues or variances to management
  • Recommend benchmarks and KPIs against which to measure the performance of company operations
  • Understand the Firm's ERP system thoroughly
  • Interact, work with and provide support to the Corporate finance group, located in the Canadian head office

Compliance

  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven working experience as a Financial Controller
  • 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Experience with creating financial statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
