We are seeking a Project Accounting Team Lead in the Chicago, Illinois office. This person will lead a project accounting team and coordinate project accounting activities throughout the Midwest, Gulf Coast and the South. They will also operate as a trusted advisor to Managing Principals, Project Owners and Project Managers. You will join our Americas Finance department

As our new Project Accounting Team Lead, you will be part of an open and collaborative team of diverse professionals. You will work independently as well as collaborate within the Finance team.

The incumbent will have the following job responsibilities:

Assure proper set up of new projects per terms of the contract
Monitor and drive resolutions to issues related to WIP, accounts receivable, and project write ups and downs
Request corporate adjustments to the general ledger
Track performance of project costs against project budget
Research problems and questions on project related matters from project managers and regional management
Prepare, analyze, explain monthly reports of billed and unbilled accounts receivable and project KPI’s
As necessary, identify and implement process improvements to ensure team workflow effectiveness
Oversee accounts payable needs for the region such as petty cash and credit card statements reconciliations, checks requests, FedEx and UPS statements, AMEX travel, etc.
Follow up with Regional staff on the proper and timely completion of timesheets
Lead the implementation of system updates and transitions in the Regions
Mentor and train staff of 5-10 responsible for project creation, invoicing and project maintenance
Perform routine monthly audit of projects, invoices and profitability
Work closely with Collector and Business Controllers on project issues
Support Regional Management, Project Owners and PMs with ad hoc reports

5-10 years of progressively responsible experience in project controlling and/or project accounting
3+ years of experience managing and training staff
BS in finance or accounting
Ability to research and resolve billing issues independently
Strong understanding of project management, billing process and systems
Experience in a professional services or project-based organization
Comfortable with Excel
Experience with Deltek accounting software preferred
Experience with accounting system transitions preferred
