The Field Learning Manager is an internal leadership development expert. Field Learning Managers are consultants and practitioners providing support in the areas of leader and manager development, coaching, collaboration and teams, while promoting continuous learning and development. The role assesses talent and development needs as well as implementation and evaluation of programs. Secondarily, this role assesses needs of a market and delivers training accordingly. The Field Learning Manager also participates in the design and development of training programs, whether it is performing the instructional design, or as a project manager in designing and developing training programs, or as an expert in a certain subject matter.

Needs Assessment

  • Assesses organizational training needs for Express field leaders
  • Partners with cross functional teams to assess key development and training needs

Training Development

  • Partners cross functionally to build programs that meet desired learning outcomes
  • Project manages the instructional design and development of programs focused on the growth of management skills, behaviors, and knowledge gaps
  • May actively build training programs through the use of adult learning principles, instructional design theories, and experiential action-based training concepts
  • Utilizes web based learning to build training programs, so as to minimize training costs and at the same time maximize training opportunities


  • Facilitates training programs in instructor led environments
  • Responsible for all logistics of an instructor led event
  • Manages the use of Center of Excellence stores for training new Store Managers

Learning Management

  • Utilizes eLearning to ensure core curriculum is being completed
  • Implements company learning initiatives and assesses strengths and opportunities
  • Implements and manages field onboarding programs, so as to ensure consistency of execution in onboarding new field leaders
  • Implements and manages a train the trainer program to ensure consistency of training throughout Express

Measurement of Success

  • Evaluates training curriculum and programs for their ability to develop skills, behaviors, and knowledge, as well as the return that each program has for the business

Essential Qualifications

  • Education:Bachelor's Degree
  • Years of Experience: 5 - 7
  • Percentage of Travel: 50% - 70%
  • Type of Travel: Overnight

Preferred Qualifications

  • Retail experience in multi-unit management roles preferred
  • Experience in retail training or comparable field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Ability to conduct needs assessments and skill gap analysis
  • Mastery of principles of adult learning, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
  • Ability to facilitate learning programs
  • Effective and efficient program and project manager
  • Able to collaborate and work effectively and efficiently with cross functional teams
  • Highly creative and able to think outside the box to develop solutions that will impact the Associates
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and apply what is learned in practical means
  • Ability to travel (travel approximately 60%)
