Job Description

Located in Ithaca, N.Y., Cornell University is a bold, innovative, inclusive and dynamic teaching and research university where staff, faculty, and students alike are challenged to make an enduring contribution to the betterment of humanity. Cornell University is one of the largest and most diverse institutions in the Ivy League. We are a community of 22,000 students and more than 10,000 faculty and staff members representing more than 80 countries and hundreds of disciplines-global cultures, backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and ideas. The College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University is recognized internationally as a leader in public health, biomedical research, animal medicine, and veterinary medical education. Ranked consistently as one of the best veterinary colleges in the nation, the College's strength is due to its strategic breadth of focus areas and its depth of expertise in each of those areas; the achievements of its faculty, staff, alumni, and students; and its commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.

The Department of Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University invites applications for two faculty positions (clinical track or tenure track) in the Section of Diagnostic Imaging. The Section includes two tenure-track and two clinical-track faculty members with the goals of supporting robust pre-clinical and clinical research programs, providing excellent clinical/diagnostic services in the Hospital, and maintaining a strong teaching and outreach program. The successful candidates would join a section of four board-certified radiologists supported by seven experienced, licensed technicians (LVT and RT), five imaging residents and a full-time biomedical engineer working in a comprehensive, state-of-the art teaching and referral hospital. Approximately 13,000 imaging examinations are performed annually.

Diagnostic imaging equipment in the Cornell University Hospital for Animals includes two multi-plate AGFA CR readers, two wireless DR detectors, a Phillips RF "special procedures" room, a flat-panel Ziehm C-arm for intra-operative imaging, a Toshiba Vantage Atlas® 1.5 T MR and a 16 slice Toshiba Aquilion-LB® CT both equipped for small and large animal examinations, a planar gamma camera linked to a MIE computer, isolation facilities for radioiodine therapy, and two ultrasound units (Phillips Epiq and iU22) with 5 transducers each and elastography capability. The Imaging equipment is integrated via DICOM modality work-list through the medical record system and images are archived and viewed with Carestream PACS, including both diagnostic and browser-independent web software (PC, Mac, iPad). Integrated 3-D software is included. Multiple diagnostic workstations are equipped with dual, 2 or 3 MP monitors.

Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine is a fulfilling place to work with ample opportunity for a robust and rewarding career for a clinical and research oriented faculty member. The teaching hospital provides a diverse and challenging small, exotic and large animal caseload and is well-equipped and supported for clinical research. Extensive opportunities for independent and collaborative research exist at the Veterinary College and throughout the University, including Weill Medical College and technology campuses in New York City. Candidates with a special interest in equine diagnostic imaging can find unique opportunities for developing their clinical and research interests at our satellite equine referral hospital (Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists) on the backstretch of the Belmont racetrack. Candidates with a small animal focus can develop consultation arrangements and collaborative research opportunities with the college-owned and affiliated small animal specialty emergency and referral practice in Stamford, Connecticut (Cornell University Veterinary Specialists).

Candidates must have a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Board certification in Veterinary Radiology (ACVR or ECVDI) is preferred, but candidates who have recently completed an approved residency in Veterinary Radiology will be considered.

Distribution of effort in the Section and Department will be determined in accordance with the service needs, academic priorities, and the candidate's expertise and academic goals in diagnostic imaging. Flexible/non-traditional work schedules will be considered to meet individual needs to attain work/life balance. Clinical teaching and service in the Cornell University Hospital for Animals, lecture and laboratory instruction of veterinary students and house officers, and independent and collaborative research are negotiable.

Clinical duties require flexible working hours that may include daytime, evening, and weekend responsibilities. The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with all of the sections in the Hospital.

Salary, rank and title will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience.

Easy campus-to-campus bus transportation allows one to explore or work in NYC while enjoying the "Ithaca is Gorges" lifestyle.
