THE ROLELeads the overall administration and management of Providence Alaska Medical Center (PAMC) Surgical and Radiological service lines to include Cardiovascular, Pre-op Clinic, Ambulatory Surgery Unit, Pain Clinic, Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Radiology Services, Sterile Processing, High Level Disinfection and Endoscopy. Strives for benchmark performance in operational efficiency, financial planning/performance, business development, general and medical community interface, and strategic planning. Assures long-term campus success through overall excellence of outcomes in clinical quality, customer service, staff, and physician satisfaction, financial viability, and regulatory compliance within areas of responsibility. The Director is a key leadership role and participates in performance improvement activities throughout the organization.   • Understand sources of patients and referrals.
  • Lead in the design and implementation of strategies to maintain and grow market share.
  • Develop budgets and provides leadership to achieve annual financial and productivity targets.
  • Develop annual operating plans to meet the strategic service line’s specialty goals and support functions.
  • Monitor actual performances and take corrective actions.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the annual operating budget, ensuring that operations are managed within the established guidelines.
  • Establish financial and programmatic goals and conduct an annual audit and evaluation of goals achieved.
  • Develop and manages resources to achieve operating efficiencies.
  • Effectively collaborate with-affiliated organizations to realize strategic patient care and business goals.
  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with physicians and surgeons in their respective teams involved in surgical and administrative aspects of the Service lines.
  • Assure visibility and accessibility to the physician and administrative leadership and staff.
  • Co-Chair Surgical Governance Council with Physician Leader.
  • Round routinely for customer service, and care outcomes.
  • Review and share customer survey results and concerns with team and respond appropriately.
  • Develop improvements to these experiences and events.
  • Serves as liaison for Radiologists, Medical Directors and Providence Administration.
  • Assure effective communication and coordination, as well as maintains positive relationships on site and organization-wide.
  • Actively participate and recruit physician participation
  • Identify and coordinate facility, equipment, and systems needs to maintain state-of-the-art technology and facilities for care and services.
  • Develop and lead a management team that plans and implements change in a positive manner, involving staff participation and input as appropriate.
  • Define strategic operating plan and works collaboratively with PAMC Leadership to assure congruent, seamless service offerings.
  • Seek input from customer groups as a first step in planning process to include all Provider groups and Medical Directors.

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in health care related field
  • Minimum five years of proven leadership in developing, managing teams.
  • Minimum seven years experience in leading and managing in an operational setting where infrastructuresupport is limited and geographic separation from traditional support services exists.
  • Proven change management skills including crafting of strategic direction, working with institutional infrastructure and processes, and effectively directing/managing tactical processes as applicable to all health care disciples.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated success in effectively and efficiently managing surgical and interventional operations.
  • Able to achieve goals in a working environment that uses multiple modalities of communication and computer applications.
  • Must have experience in strategic planning, organizational assessment, and have highly developed leadership and interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Completion of a Master’s degree program in health care related field.
  • Knowledge of reimbursement practices highly desired.
  • Knowledge of local and regional health care environment/market helpful.
