About the Role
The New York Times is looking for a senior financial executive to lead Financial Planning & Analysis for its technology operations, a growing and increasingly complex part of the organization. You will report to the Vice President of Strategy and FP&A, and oversee budgeting, forecasting and analysis for the product development and technology operations, including FTE analysis and tracking. You will provide important data-driven decision support for both our product development and technology leadership, including evaluating and tracking short-term and long-term resource requirements. You will manage a team of four experienced professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and implement a vision to develop an outstanding FP&A team for The Times’s technology and product development operations
- Manage the budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis for The Times’s technology operations, working with our technology and product development teams
- Provide data-driven decision support for the technology and product development leadership, including tracking and evaluating our resource requirements
- Improve reporting and forecasting, streamlining processes and driving automation
- Modernize, improve, embrace new technologies, use self-service, and enhance insights through improved reporting capabilities with the Adaptive Insights tool.
- Oversee and implement the accounting requirements for capital reporting, forecasting and budgeting
- Partner with the broader company-wide finance group and other corporate teams (e.g., Legal and Talent & Inclusion) on a range of strategic and operational matters
- Ensure the department maintains The Times’s financial procedures, acting as an essential control mechanism
- Manage four member team, overseeing their professional development and performance management
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 10+ years of experience in finance, strategy and/or consulting roles
- Extensive experience solving problems and shaping decisions through data analysis
- Proficiency in building complex financial models
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Experience leading teams and partnering with senior leadership
- Organized, self-driven and self-directed with strong ability to prioritize and work to deadlines
- Dynamic with the ability to inspire the people who work for you and around you to achieve outstanding results
- Excellent partner management, relationship development, and influencing skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- FP&A leadership experience in a technology-based organization
- Masters degree or professional training certification in business, economics, finance, accounting or other relevant area (e.g., MBA, CPA, CFA)
