Position Description:   

An Executive Director (ED) is a dynamic, flexible and creative leader who will drive fundraising, relationship building, and overall community presence. You will inspire, lead, and manage a diverse team of employees through continuous feedback, mentoring and leading the team by example. You will drive the financial results of the District and MDA’s standard of excellence in the quality of services provided to the families we serve throughout a specific geographical area. The ED reports to the Divisional Director and works closely with all levels of the MDA Team. The ED supervises a team including but not limited to, Associate Executive Director, Area Director, Director of Business Development, Fundraising Coordinators, and Administrative staff.


  • Provide direction and leadership toward the achievement of MDA’s annual objectives and budget while leading a team to success with our purpose, mission, and strategy as guiding principles.
  • Must effectively lead, manage and develop all District staff. 
  • Drive new income opportunities by engaging and recruiting MDA sponsors, volunteers and community members.
  • Accountable for the attainment of District Team income and individual fundraising goals.
  • Handle fiscal accountability for significant individual and team income requirements. Provide accurate projections to Divisional Director on monthly basis.
  • Develop and implement strategic business plans and problem solve ensuring District achievement of income and following the Business Plan.
  • Build a dynamic office culture that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse team of employees and volunteers by engaging families, working collaboratively with the Family Support and Clinical Care team and in engaging staff in the mission.
  • Responsible for the hiring, training and development of the staff including mentoring, feedback, and performance reviews.
  • Has an ‘employee’ first mentality; as a leader of an office most of the praise, goals achieved, and successes should be on your team.
  • Leads and participates in the execution of major fundraising programs such as; MDA’s Shamrocks Against Dystrophy, Muscle Walk, Lock-Ups, Fill the Boot, Golf Tournaments, Social Events and other community based fundraising and health care activities such as; clinics, MDA Summer Camp, support group and other service programs.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree (Business or Non-Profit Management preferred) and three to five years of direct management experiencerequired or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning/reporting and budgetary oversight.
  • Shown success leading professional staff and providing mentorship and support to help them achieve their goals.
  • Ability to travel within territory and work flexible hours. Use of personal vehicle in the course of employment to travel throughout the district. Significant local travel is required for this position; including visiting local business, health care facilities, and events in public places.
  • Ability and willingness to work irregular hours and attend meetings beyond the framework of the normal working schedule.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite products.
