Kean University has established a new interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Laboratory Science and Pandemic Research (CCLSPR or Center) with a broad mission to help create and sustain a preeminent, nationally recognized program of education and research in clinical diagnostics and pandemic research at Kean. Prompted by the COVID-19 global pandemic and capitalizing on the new clinical diagnostics laboratory at Kean in partnership with Union County, the Center is focused on the following goals: (a) housing and overseeing the short-term and long-term activities and direction of the Kean CLIA laboratory, (b) launching undergraduate, graduate and certificate academic programs in clinical molecular diagnostics, and (c) coordinating and facilitating pandemic research initiatives in basic and social sciences across the university, including our location in Wenzhou, China. Student research and training are central to the activities of the Center and will include representation from diverse majors such as science, technology, business and communications.
Under the direction of the Dean, the Executive Director organizes, plans and directs the Center and is responsible for overseeing all Center activities, including the Kean Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory, academic programs in molecular diagnostics and coordination of pandemic research programs. The Director develops and implements Center policies and procedures; manages the hiring and evaluation processes for all Center faculty and staff; oversees curriculum, program development and outcomes assessment; manages the budget; and does related work as required. The Executive Director may be required to teach two in-load courses each semester (spring and fall) in addition to assigned managerial duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications: Doctorate degree and a minimum of three years of progressive experience in higher education or a related environment combining academic instruction, scholarly attainment and administration or the equivalent as determined by the university. Experience in related management fields, research organizations or not-for-profit entities is also acceptable.
