Job Description

Directly reporting to the Vice-President Geothermal Resource, the EHS Manager is responsible for designing, implementing and improving EHS programs, improving the drilling safety culture, assisting management in injury and illness prevention, and ensuring operations are in compliance with local, state and federal environmental and safety regulations. The successful candidate will establish and ensure world class process standards and provide exceptional leadership, direction, education, and overall strategic management of the company's environmental health and safety initiatives.



  • Develops, implements and manages standard operating procedures (SOP's) in environmental, industrial hygiene, occupational, and safety programs in the Drilling Operations organization
  • Develops and maintains systems for monitoring, reporting, and analyzing EHS metrics including leading and lagging indicators of safety performance; provides recommendations and proactive ideas to drilling management
  • Manages accident investigations, data analysis, recurrence prevention programs and procedures; provides Drilling management
  • Develops and provides safety and environmental compliance training to company personnel as required by federal, state, and local regulatory bodies
  • Supports EHS staff to implement and drive the company's environmental compliance and safety culture
  • Takes a direct role in communicating the mission, vision, and values of the company and its commitment to compliance and safe behavior on the drilling operations team
  • Provides technical expertise and support to managers, safety committees, and technicians
  • Develops, implements and administers accident investigation programs and corrective actions
  • Develops EHS audits, observations, documentation and implementation of corrective actions
  • Designs and directs programs for security and emergency preparedness
  • Researches and recommends safety equipment
  • Oversees monthly rig safety audits
  • Recommends or develops and distributes health and safety educational materials
  • Using statistical trend analysis, supports the design, development and implementation of EHS training; maintains oversight of training records and corrective action follow-up
  • Provide new hire safety training as needed
  • Communicates with federal, state and local regulatory bodies


  • Promote a strong relationship between safety, quality, and productivity
  • Attends conferences, meetings, and workshops to keep current on EHS regulations, methods, policies, and procedures, and to maintain required level of certification
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by management


  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years' experience in a related field; or the equivalent of work experience
  • ASP or CSP desirable
  • Prior supervisory experience or relevant role
  • Must have a proven track record of improved safety performance within drilling, exploration or related field
  • An in-depth knowledge of field concepts, practices, codes standards and procedures including OSHA regulations and ISO 9000 quality assurance standards, ISO 14001 environmental standards, and OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety standards
  • Must have and maintain a detailed knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety and environmental laws
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
  • Must possess excellent technical writing, verbal, visual, and written communication skills
  • Must have excellent organizational, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation. Must be proficient in MS word, Excel, Power Point and use of the Internet
  • Must be able to communicate with other employees and read and write at a level that will enable to perform the work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must possess at any time a valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT's auto insurance carrier
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle in a safe manner


  • Must be able to navigate rugged terrain; and work in all types of weather
  • Both in office and on job site working environment
  • The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor and use repetitive motion for periods of time
  • The ability to occasionally lift to 25 pounds
  • This position requires sitting 30% of the time and standing and walking 70% of the time
  • This position requires approximately 50 - 70% domestic travel and international travel
