The Digital Science group of Thermo Fisher Science, located in Branford, Connecticut is seeking an Entry Level Database Developer. The position will be focused on SQL Script development and SQL automation testing. You will work under general supervision and assist with the planning, design, development, and testing of scientific software systems and applications for our customers. Successful candidates should have strong organizational, communication and collaboration skills; and must have the ability to communicate with team members and customers.

This can be an exciting opportunity for a recent Computer Science college graduate with an emphasize in Data Management Systems.


  • Create and test SQL migration and test scripts
  • Write SQL Unit tests for automation
  • Analyze requirements and develop ad-hoc SQL statements
  • Troubleshoot and debug database issues
  • Conduct data analysis
  • Contribute to the maintenance of data models and database documentation
  • Present ideas and recommendations that may have an impact on existing or future systems/applications, products, services or procedures and business processes
  • Adhere to the development process and suggests improvements where appropriate
  • Document findings and solutions

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other data or software-related engineer program
  • Minimum 0 - 2 years of database development with DML and DDL
  • Experience with database design and architecture
  • Hands on experience in developing SQL scripts
  • Practical knowledge of database normalization (2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on)
  • Familiar with an Entity-Attribute-Value (EAV) data model
  • Desire to work with and perform analysis on large data sets
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • “Big picture” thinking regarding design and solution architecting
  • Ability to work in an Agile environment
  • Knowledge of the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills
  • Desire to learn new skills and improve existing ones
