Job Summary

This position is responsible for leadership, facilitation, and execution aspects of: 1) the Union Bank’s Enterprise Architecture framework, including the EA standards, Blocks and Patterns, 2) facilitating Technology and Application portfolio management efforts and 3) furthering the goals of the EA Program Office at Union Bank by continuously improving the program and governance model. This role will collaborate with business constituents, other EA team members, project teams and staff in various IT functional areas as needed to fulfill the responsibilities described above

Major Responsibilities

EA Framework and Portfolio:

  • Enhance, Maintain and Manage the Union Bank EA framework including the EA standards, blocks, patterns and reference architectures
  • Communicate and enforce adherence to EA Framework
  • Track, Measure and report the effectiveness and the adherence to EA framework, deviations as well as remediation plans and target dates 
  • Develop and update policies, procedures and processes for the effective management of the Technology Portfolio and the Application Portfolio
  • Ensure adoption of the Technology and Application Portfolio Management by the organization through communication, influence as well as the enforcement of key EA policies and processes
  • Work in collaboration with the Domain architecture teams, Technology Product Managers and Application Managers to Collect, Track, and manage the information related to the Technology and Application Portfolios
  • Lead Application and Technology Portfolio Rationalization efforts on a periodic basis
  • Track and measure the health of the Technology and Application portfolio in collaboration with the System Owners, Technology Owners, EA domain teams and Enterprise PMO
  • Correlate the Application and Technology Portfolio information and provide insights into the decisions around technology refresh cycles, impact of changes to EA standards as well as Application disposition strategy.
  • Assist with Developing, maintaining and communicating Technology Roadmaps with inputs from Domain Strategies, Portfolio Rationalization, Business Needs

EA Governance and Tools:

  • Develop and enhance EA governance process content and artifacts as needed
  • Represent the EA department in the IT Governance committee reporting the EA & ARB status as needed
  • Ensure that the EA Repository and Toolset support the needs of the EA organization and processes
  • Work with the Domain Architects in Maintaining the currency of the Enterprise Architecture information and artifacts related to Business, Solution, Integration, Data and Technology
  • Incorporate the EA Information and Artifacts into the decision-making processes

Other: 

  • Perform the role of a Solution, Integration, Data or Technology architect on projects on as needed basis (20% allocation) and develop a good understanding of the practices
  • Understand, advocate and augment EA development and service delivery. 'sell' the EA process, its outcome and ongoing results, and to lead the communication or marketing activities needed to ensure EA success and use.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years of design and implementation experience in IT, with a background in at least two of the following disciplines: Solution Architecture, Application Architecture, Integration/SOA, Technology Architecture, Technology Operations or Applications management
  • Experience managing and delivering IT and/or Application Portfolios including rationalization efforts
  • Experience as an Enterprise Architect or in a similar role
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to understand the long-term ('big picture') and short-term perspectives of situations

  • Knowledge of financial models and budgeting
  • Understanding of the political climate of the enterprise, and how to respond to political challenges
