Overview

In this role, the candidate will be responsible for performing full vehicle and component experimental modal analysis. The selected candidate will also support NVH development and validation activities, including full vehicle interior and exterior noise testing for design validation and certification. The role also includes diagnosis and solution of complex product NVH issues and development of new NVH test techniques and procedures.

This position will coordinate and perform a selected variety of functional engineering assignments; the accomplishment which requires individual proficiency and ability for independent judgment within areas of experience and the application of standard engineering principles, theories, concepts and techniques in more than one engineering field, while the result is the design and development of commercial truck products. This position offers the challenge of varied assignments to highly trained and experienced professional engineers who have demonstrated personal knowledge and ability through accomplishments on previous assignments.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performing full vehicle and component modal analysis and ODS
  • Performing truck and bus interior and exterior noise tests
  • Guiding mechanics and technicians as they prepare vehicles for interior and exterior noise tests
  • Guiding engineers in lower classifications
  • Diagnosing and solving NVH vehicle product noise and vibration issues
  • Supporting product development teams by providing NVH test results and status

Position Purpose and Requirements

Provides technical and analytical support to Product Development Engineering. May provide direction and guidance to less experienced team members. Refers problems that cannot be resolved to the next level. Serves as a central resource with design, process, manufacturing, test, quality and marketing as the product(s) move to production and distribution. Involvement may last throughout all stages of a product’s lifecycle including modifications, upgrades and maintenance of the product or product line.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • At least 5 years experience in product design/development
  • At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities

OR

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • At least 3 years experience in product design/development
  • At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities

OR

  • PhD in Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
  • Ability to travel overnight 30 to 40%

Desired Skills:

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • Previous experience with B&K Pulse or Head Artemis or LMS software
  • Previous experience in Experimental Modal Analysis and ODS
  • Previous experience with Matlab, LabView, and statistical analysis software such as minitab
  • Previous experience with vehicle interior and exterior noise testing
  • Heavy and medium duty truck product knowledge and ability to influence product design
  • Diesel engine design and testing experience
  • Experience with analytical modeling of physical systems
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Demonstrated initiative and persistence in problem solving
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Experience in PC based software (Word, Excel, and Project)
