ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Directs and leads the engineering team for Canada Gypsum.

  • Liaises with manufacturing sites to develop the long term investment plans across the 9 Canadian sites.

  • Works closely with the global engineering teams to ensure best practices are monitored, improved and followed

  • Key member of the Canadian operations leadership team

  • Manages, mentors and grows team of engineers and project managers to ensure maximum performance of the teams

  • Leader of EEM (Early Equipment Management) and EPD (Early Product Development) for Canada.

  • Liaises with R&D to develop industrialization plans for new processes and projects within Stage Gate process

  • Responsible for leading and delivering capital projects from $0.3M to $30M+

  • Leads major plant upgrades at sites whilst the site continues to operate normally

  • Promotes and introduces industry best practices and technologies to engineering and operations teams

  • Finds, evaluates, defines, prioritizes and recommends new engineering projects, as well as the project selection, controls, budget, and personnel requirements for the projects assigned to the department.

  • Develops strategy for engineering structure & activities that meet the objective, operations, and programs deemed to be important to the direction of the company.

  • Responsible for achieving departmental project quality, budget and schedule goals targets.

  • Provides leadership for corporate initiatives common across sites

  • Work closely with US counterpart to ensure best practice and execution alignment

  • Part of NA CertainTeed Engineering leadership team.

  • Participates in and conducts meetings with all plant managers and other company executives to discuss current and future plans.

  • Represents the company on technical or industry committees as assigned, or assigns and supervises the participation of department staff members on such committees.

  • Provides reactive support to manufacturing sites as required.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs other related duties and responsibilities as needed and / or requested by management

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

  • Responsible for recommending and executing capital projects up to $30M.

  • Responsible for the managing engineering group’s annual budget

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Growing Engineering team of up to 14

WORKING CONDITIONS

Main office in corporate area, but need to works in a manufacturing plant environment with limited HVAC, concrete floors, and exposure to industrial noise, dust, chemicals and temperature changes. Normal plant operation is 24 hours, 7 days a week and work hours may vary depending on business needs. Flexibility in this area is key to “get the job accomplished”. May require long hours, weekend and holiday work if required to complete projects. Will require travel by air and rental car across Canada, up to 50% of the time.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to spend a significant amount of time on plant floor. Job includes tasks that require walking, bending, twisting, gripping, stair and ladder climbing, entering confined spaces, navigating rough terrain and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Job may require long periods of sitting, walking, standing, working on a computer or engaging in telephone/webex conversations. Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment necessary to comply with government and company safety standards whenever engineered methods of reducing hazards or physical requirements cannot be reasonably accommodated.

REQUIREDQUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Honour’s Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

  • Current Professional Engineering designation required. Willing to register in Multi-Provinces.

  • Minimum ten (10) years of applied knowledge and leadership in a heavy, industrial continuous manufacturing environment essential.

  • Strong knowledge of provincial engineering codes, laws, regulations and practices.

  • Professional Project Management designation (PPM)

  • Demonstrated experience in leading the delivery of major plant upgrades whilst the site continues to operate

  • Broad knowledge of main engineering disciplines

  • Able to handle multiple initiatives concurrently.

  • Previous leadership experience in building and engineering department

  • Expertise in powder processing technologies

  • Knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLC-5 and ControlLogix platforms
