The Role
Engineering ManagerLex Machina is seeking an experienced engineering leader to manage a team of 8-12 engineers working on our legal analytics platform. As the Engineering Manager, you will lead the team to build innovative solutions that leverage data insights to transform legal services.
Our front-end stack includes vanilla JavaScript (ESNext), d3.js, and React, and is built using webpack. We have written our web applications in Python using Pyramid and SQLAlchemy. Our faceted search is driven by OpenSearch using a Python framework on top of the OpenSearch QueryDSL. Offline processing of legal data and other distributed tasks are managed using Python and Ray / Anyscale. Our software stack is deployed to Google Cloud environments using Ansible & Tower.
Responsibilities- Recruit, coach, and mentor engineers, fostering their career development and growth

- Set operational cadence and processes to optimize team execution and delivery
- Guide technical decision making with senior technical leadership
- Promote engineering quality, scalability, and innovation
- Manage budgets, over all timelines, roadmaps, and staffing plans
- Monitor velocity, capacity, and project health metrics
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks, risks, dependencies
- Represent team needs and concerns to senior leadership
- Cultivate an environment of trust, diversity, inclusion, and respect
Requirements - BS in CS or equivalent; MS or MBA preferred
- 2+ years in an engineering leadership role, with a track record of shipping products
- Experience with agile product development, CI/CD, test automation, and other development practices
- Excellent communication, collaboration, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem solving abilities
- Passion for building teams and developing people
