This is a working project engineering role where one coordinates the engineering department (people, projects, capital and resources) on day to day tasks and projects while also directly running engineering projects themselves. Reporting to the Regional Engineering Manager they will focus on engineering projects to improve the Aurora site in terms of Safety, Quality, Productivity and Innovation. In addition to projects they will also coordinate with site Production/QA/HSE/Maintenance department managers to support daily operations and issues as they arise. They will work closely with Mfg. R&D and Regional R&D group to bring new products to production in a timely and cost effective manner.

  • Responsible for commercialization of new products and product changes focusing on machinery requirements while coordinating with Mfg. R&D (tooling/process) group for the new product launch success.
  • Work directly with Regional Engineering Manager to ensure manufacturing strategic alignment with Company objectives and sharing of best practices globally with other simliar production sites.
  • Resolve manufacturing problems, provide technical support, current best practices and advanced initiatives for key production processes
  • Coordinate/prioritize project engineering team projects.
  • Lead SMART Modular automation efforts within plant.
  • Develop Technical Mastery of core production processes: Injection Molding, Fiber Extrusion, Drill Fill, and Automated Assembly.
  • Support Americas cost savings, manufacturing and product development efforts
  • Independently plan and technically provide support on multiple projects utilizing project plans and schedules to track and communicate developments from prototype design through pilot production.
  • Support Marketing, Product Creation and Manufacturing on technical issues
  • Provide technical support to procurement for sourcing decisions
  • Manage Engineering projects using formal Project Management tools. Prioritize, track and manage project timelines. Communicate milestone dates and contingency plans if needed

Our expectations

  • BS in Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent (Mechanical and/or Plastics Engineering)
  • MS or MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of engineering/production experience with min. 5 years in plastic injection molding area.
  • Min. 5+ years technical management /supervision level with direct reports.
  • Understanding of polymer materials properties and the practical application of these principles in establishing robust manufacturing processes, troubleshooting, and consulting with R&D on material selection.
  • Robotic/Automation experience
  • Project Management Certification or training
  • Strong leadership and ability to lead, drive and motivate a diverse technical team
  • Excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills
  • Ability to make decisions within scope of responsibility
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage projects and if needed, contingency plans
  • Able to collaborate and interact well with all levels of colleagues and customers
  • Able to develop and manage budgets, including expense controls
  • Ability to set and achieve goals and drive results
  • Machine building, automation, process technology expertise
  • Electrical schematic, PLC basics, tooling and plastics process knowledge
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Minitab, SolidWorks & Mold Simulation Analysis or equivalent systems.
  • LEAN (Green belt to Six Sigma) a plus.
